Well British Gas recently put up my gas and electric prices.

I've been running SETI 24x7 on my home PC since May 1999 so I'd hate to think how much money I've spent in electricity just running SETI (24x7 most of the time).

Anyway, I've switched my gas and electricity supplier using uswitch.com and saved £186 a year - so I figure my new suppler is "sponsoring" my ongoing BOINC project participation!

I would encourage any fellow UK crunchers to see if you can save money on your gas and electric bills. Use this link:

http://www.uswitch.com/RAF/RAFSession.asp?ref=RAFTID4953162

They're even running a £10 Amazon promotion - they pay you if you get your friends to switch over (and save them money I would add).

Si.

Well, according to them I can save about £60 per year. You must either be using a LOT of electricity or were paying way too much to start with. My bill is about £45/month at the moment with swalec.

Good info though

Ned

This verging on spamming, you didnt mention that you get £10 for each "friend" you refer. If your going to try this sort of scam atleast mention that your going to benefit.

If you really are/were trying to help people (and the seti@home link is tenuous at best) remove that referer id, that way we know your real intent is helping and not exploiting people (many who you dont know).

While here in Ontario we're capped at $0.043 a KW/h, I still ringup the bill quite hefty each month.

I pay in excess of $275 CDN a month for electricity and use approximately 6,000 KW in a 30 day billing cycle, but this is for a household of 5.

Our water heater, barbeque & fireplace are all natural gas and supplied through a different company. That electric bill is for the lights, laundry applicances (heavy duty Whirlpool Gold washer & dryer), kitchen appliances (20 year old range, microwave, fridge & dishwasher), and for all other electric items in the house.

I'd cry tears of joy if my bill was $100 (45 Pounds Sterling).

SimGuy:

I'm from Ontario, but I'm in Montréal right now. Here, it's $.04 for the first 1000kWH/day and then it's $0.40 after that... we have electrical heating and bad insulation...

Ahhhh the life of a student...

I`m also from Ontario(southwestern Ontario). The rates i pay is $0.047 for the first 750 kwh and $0.055 for any usuage after that. I use about 850 kwh per month(2 ppl. in a 4 bedroom house). Cost is about $42.00, but here in Ontario we also pay for delivery charges, administration charges, service charges, and various other charges with our cost of electricity. So my $42.00 usage becomes $92.00. For me summer and winter are the highest seasons. Summer has air conditioner and pool pump. Winter has heating. My bill for those 2 seasons goes up to roughly $140.00 per month.

I am not sure how much electricity I have put toward Seti in the past but considering I have 6 computers on 24/7 (simply becuase I never think to shut them off) I may as well give them something to do.

I do a lot of video and photo editing and since I don't have the loot for a MEGA hard drive or disk array, I use all these little computers with 20gb HDs as my storage space.

:)

Lucky You!

Here in Germany it's about EUR 0.15 / kWh
