My old PC died due to motherboard failure. The disk contents are valid and the BOINC (SETI) are accessible. My new PC (all new) is up and running, also went from Win XP to Win 7 64-bit. I have copied the "Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC" folder onto the new hard drive under "Libraries\Documents\My Documents\BOINC".

So what is the best way to get me up and running again? I have not downloaded or installed any BOINC Software. I think I was running the 6.10.60 version of BOINC when the PC failed.

Install BOINC --I leave it to your digression if you want to use 6.10.60, or go forward to 6.12.33, both can be found here-- and in the 3rd screen of the installer, click the Advanced button:


On the next screen click the Change button for the BOINC Data directory path (the second one) and point it to your Libraries\Documents\My Documents\BOINC\ directory:


Choose whichever options you want to install (screen saver or not, service install or not, allow other users control over the Manager or not), then continue the installation.

When prompted, reboot the computer. This finalizes the making of the correct accounts & permissions for BOINC. Upon return in Windows, BOINC will do benchmarks, after which your work should continue.

Apropos, since you have a 64bit OS, it's probably wisest to choose the 64bit version of BOINC. This won't have any changes for the Data directory.

Thank you for your prompt response. I suspected that was the solution, but since Windows 7 has new features regarding data mapping on the disk, I wanted to be sure. What you suggested worked perfectly. I'm also running much faster, old cpu was Intel E8400 dual core, new one is i5-2500K quad core.
