If they could just write a law that said "Be Fair". I assume this is one of the tax breaks that EVERYONE can get?? Did not think so. Janice |

Compete? how about we tax the crap out of these so called overseas American companies products. Perhaps you haven't noticed that better than half the industrialized nations are facing massive debt. It seems that they are going to have to take a real long hard look at those massive breaks they've given corporations and just bite the bullet. Either you get revenue or your country fails its that simple. It seems you'd like that. The US failing. Or perhaps you feel that you need to pay more taxes since cutting corporate taxes means mine goes up plain... simple. Perhaps you dont pay taxes so it wont matter to you. "Or perhaps you feel that you need to pay more taxes since cutting corporate taxes means mine goes up plain... simple." If you do that, all you'll be doing is taxing U.S. citizens big and small, rich and poor, white and black, gay and straight and anything else you can think of. The tax will get passed on to the consumers. You don't get it, do you? The mentality of punishing to get your way only makes things worse. It's a global economy. Did you see what the management did when the politician started with the "I'll penalize them" mentality? They moved away. If you lower the tax below what other countries tax, they will return here. Then you will collect taxes. Otherwise, you get nothing. We must compete by lowering the tax below other competitive countries. Like Leslie Stahl stated in the piece, we ALREADY have among the highest corporate tax rate of developed countries in the world. It's not working! Is this not evident? We're driving them away and tax revenue with it. |

They simply need to get taxed where they (and I use the term loosely) "earn" it. Doing business in the USA, under US law, regardless of HQ location. Enough games and tax dodges. Pay fair, play fair, or fold up and leave. Janice |

Right now, we're getting income taxes from people working for them inside this country. "Fold up and leave" and we'll get zero and more unemployment. Even Canada "gets it"! |

Right now, we're getting income taxes from people working for them inside this country. considering what they did to the gulf.. I think we could live without them. And surprise... room for an American company to go to work. Janice |

Not sure what "the Gulf" has to do with this? What are you talking about? And what "American" company are you talking about? Google? Pfizer? Cisco? SURPRISE! How "American" are they? Like I said, it's a global economy. |

Not sure what "the Gulf" has to do with this? What are you talking about? Like I said, fix the tax code. Tax 'em where they make it. End of issue. One of the first companies in question was the shell company that had the drilling rig in the gulf of mexico. Remember how well that worked out? Janice |

Shell? They aren't even mentioned in the story. Transocean does not equal Shell. If your quick fix "end of issue" solutions work, why aren't they instituted? Because they don't work. If it was that easy, this wouldn't be a story. |

"Or perhaps you feel that you need to pay more taxes since cutting corporate taxes means mine goes up plain... simple." You've really drunk the Koolaid haven't you? Keith. It's a con. Pure and simple. When a corporation comes bleating to the government and claims that if they were taxed less in the US there would be more jobs for Americans they are lying to you. It's a con. You are being played for a patsy if you seriously think that voting for more corporate tax cuts is going to make your life better. I guarantee you it won't. Global economy? Ireland had huge tax breaks for corporations and it didn't do them a whole lot of good did it? It's a fricking con. They'll tell you anything to get you to hand over more of your hard earned money to them. The only people that benefit from huge corporate tax breaks are the corporations. The only reason you are being sold this stupid idea is because they have access by virtue of all the money they have to the politicians and the media. Wake up. Reality Internet Personality |

I hate to once again remind folks that are taxation in the US is at a 60 year low. How can it be that people scream that they are over taxed when in fact they are being so under taxed that we run a $trillion dollar debt every year. Clearly the libertarian message has gotten out. sadly, that message does not allow for a functioning gov't. You just as well call them the Anarchy party since they insist on a lack of gov't In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

How can it be that people scream that they are over taxed when in fact they are being so under taxed that we run a $trillion dollar debt every year. We're not talking about taxation "in general". We're talking about corporate taxes which affect job creation or loss. Here is a list of effective corporate tax rates. http://seekingalpha.com/article/257977-high-u-s-corporate-tax-rate-a-barrier-to-economic-growth I'm not for anarchy. I'm for making us competitive in the world economy once again. Clearly, YOUR WAY ISN'T WORKING. |

"Or perhaps you feel that you need to pay more taxes since cutting corporate taxes means mine goes up plain... simple." The shareholders benefit. Shareholders aren't necessarily the rich. Shareholders are people who hold mutual funds, 401K's, IRA's, stocks, pension funds, retirement accounts, etc. That's a lot of people and families in the USA. |

Only the simple minded cannot follow this idea to it's natural conclusion. Join the race to the bottom and once we get to the zero level of taxation to corporations, they will start demanding we actually pay them to stay. Now we're in a bidding war to see which country is willing to pay the most for the privilege of having these thieving bastards in our midst. Sorry Keith. I just can't follow the logic. as a shareholder I get quite peturbed that I get pay for stock, get profits from it then have the very same people that paid me the profit steal from me through the very profit and taxes that they avoid paying. I'd just as soon have them(me through my shares) pay their fair share and quit putting off the cost of doing business on the little people In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face.
