Last modified: 27 Mar 2011, 19:31:26 UTC

The last view days I noticed that my rig has returned the normal number of crunched wu's (around 200+ à day). The weird fact is that my credits suddenly drops from around 24000 to 15000-19000... Because my pending credit is not increasing it looks like I have some ghost wu's?

I don't know how to check this so any help would be great!

Regards,

Currently, reported results that go into pending are not being added to the pending credits page.
The current totals will only go down.
So, we are in the dark right now.

And we don't have a clue yet what future plans are.

If you want to see your pending tasks. You would have to go to your tasks and select Show: Pending. Then flip through all the pages to count them.

LOL....Wanna try that with 8 rigs reporting?
And 3 of them with dual GPUs?

I know how you got there. But how many pending credits?

My understanding is that the credit system is now dynamic. So credit doesn't exist until a consensus is reached.

I get a bit dynamic myself....especially when Boinc T's me off.

Of that there is defiantly a consensus! (:

I thought Joe made it pretty clear in this message that the "Pending Credit" function had been turned off - when I click on "Pending credit" from my account page, I gat a blank page. I can see what Pending Tasks I have by sorting the TASKS page by "Pending" rather than "All Tasks", but we can't get pending credit, because under the "New Credit" system, credit is not calculated until the Work Unit validates.

I can live with it the way it is, but I'm not a mega-cruncher. (8{)

Yes, Perhaps there should be a sticky for that topic, or someone should make a new one '"Pending Credit" RIP 2011'. (:

So who exactly announced that the pending credit is dynamic now? I have yet to see anything from anyone from the project. Guess finding it out second hand is best....heh. Least we 'know' what's going now.

Did you get a chance to have a look at your host 5542899 yet? Still seems to be trashing every download, as you mentioned in the 'Panic' thread last week. Looks like a typo in you app_info.xml file from here.

My understanding of how it was described. Disclaimer: My understanding might be +/-107% (:
More efficient hosts would gain more credit than less efficient hosts. So if you had a computer that started spitting out lots of errors its efficiency would go down generating lower granted for completed work. So the higher your "Average processing rate" for an application the better.

There was a discussion in the thread "Why is the 'new' credit system still erratic." & there is the description in the wiki.

Yeah thanks for the heads up, my host is still having an issue downloading tasks. I checked my app info and sure enough I had a typo in there. But I haven't even touched that file?! Weird, any who I corrected the cfft32_32_10 to *_32_14 but now there isn't any work at the server so we shall see in a few hours what's up with it.

Message 1091588 - Posted: 30 Mar 2011, 9:25:58 UTC

After reading the post about the new credit system I still have a question.

At this moment I am using the lunatic optimized app. So my main rig is an anonymous platform according to the boinc manager.
Because of the granted credit problems with anonymous platforms should I change this somewhere? Or can't this be changed?

Regards,

Message 1091590 - Posted: 30 Mar 2011, 10:08:29 UTC - in response to Message 1091588.

At this moment in time, to my knowledge, nobody - probably not even Dr. Anderson has invested the time and the effort to

a) mathematically understand the new credit 'system' and check whether it is mathematically sound.
b) check the relevant parts of the Boinc sources for correct and faultless implementation of this 'system'
c) run some statistical tests on the granted credit, to check whether the patterns match the intended design.

This means that in effect the credit you get granted is a random number, that may or may not bear a numerical similarity to the amount of work invested by your computer.

Or to put it more simple:
You get some credit for your computer's work. Be thankful if that credit roughly matches the work/time you invested from your computer. If it doesn't - nothing you can do about it. Except do aforementioned steps a to c and hit David with a rolling pin if he got it wrong.

Yes, a large proportion of us believes he got at least two of those things wrong. But until somebody can actually prove it via a to c, we have no leverage whatsoever to make him change a single byte of that code.

Regarding the question whether this 'system' may or may not lead to less credit per wu for optimised applications - nobody can say for sure. See a to c.
No, you can not change what your system is recognised as. You either run stock or you have an app_info and run something else (e.g. optimised). In the latter case you are branded as anonymous. If you think you are getting less credit per task from optimised than from stock, and you believe credit to be an important attribute, you are of course free to stop running optimised and return to stock. As far as I'm aware you only need to remove app_info.xml and boinc will graciously do the rest [probably temporarily losing your cache in the process between realising that no application has been defined for your cached tasks and getting the necessary information and files from Berkeley]. May I at this point remind you that optimised apps are quite a bit faster (CPU+GPU) less errorprone (CUDA) and the only thing available (ATI).

Thank you for this answer, It gives me some extra inside information in the whole proces! I still prefer to run the optimized app. But I still don't see why there should be a difference between the credit system for a anonymous or known system..

I am now confused, as when I click on "Pending Credit" I still get my 9,000+ pending credit listed up to 7th March, when I assume the new system took over. So should we still be able to see all old pending credit or not?

Any credit pending from before the 7th of March will still be listed. As tasks validate the list will gradually shrink (reporting an ever diminishing pending credit total) until no tasks from before the switch are left and only the header row and a total of 0 will be displayed.

You have pendings going back (at least) to January - you still see something on that page. My oldest pending was issued 1/3 and reported 10/3 [which shows it takes the date of the report] and my page shows no pending credit.
