I have a new multi-core machine running Ubuntu x86_64 10.10 and I am getting XML parse errors. The tasks finish normally though (no indication of an abort) and apparently validate ok. I'm a little worried about this. My other machines don't cause such errors. Have I made a mistake? How do I correct this? <core_client_version>6.10.58</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <stderr_txt> Unrecognized XML in parse_init_data_file: hostid Skipping: 5766757 Skipping: /hostid Unrecognized XML in parse_init_data_file: starting_elapsed_time Skipping: 0.000000 Skipping: /starting_elapsed_time Unrecognized XML in parse_init_data_file: computation_deadline Skipping: 1297213921.000000 Skipping: /computation_deadline Unrecognized XML in GLOBAL_PREFS::parse_override ... the rest left off to save space Workunit 689514093 Created 26 Jan 2011 8:11:48 UTC Sent 26 Jan 2011 10:19:21 UTC Received 26 Jan 2011 13:38:59 UTC Server state Over Outcome Success Client state Done Exit status 0 (0x0) Computer ID 5766757 Report deadline 9 Feb 2011 4:36:01 UTC Run time 4,945.88 CPU time 4,930.91 Validate state Valid Credit 26.85 The executables are: cd /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu # file *gnu setiathome-5.28.x86_64-pc-linux-gnu: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), statically linked, for GNU/Linux 2.6.0, stripped setiathome_6.03_i686-pc-linux-gnu: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (GNU/Linux), statically linked, stripped setigraphics_6.03_i686-pc-linux-gnu: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (GNU/Linux), statically linked, stripped # ldd setiathome-5.28.x86_64-pc-linux-gnu not a dynamic executable |

Since your validate state is Valid, you can see these aren't errors. They're informational messages. What it means is that the science application was built against an API that's younger than your present BOINC version. It now comes across all these new 'commands' that it cannot parse. And thus it skips them and tells you about skipping them. Without affecting the outcome of the task. |

Boinc 6.10.58 (from Ubuntu 10.10 repository). Glad there is nothing to worry about here. Thanks. |

younger I meant older. Where was I with my head when I wrote that? ;-) Anyway, all the rest is still correct, it's just that your BOINC version is newer, with newer options built in than the science application can recognize (and use), so it ignores those. |
