Todd, What ASUS mobo is that? I can't seem to find it listed on their website. Or is it a preproduction version? Thanks Dan |

It is the ASUS P8P67 WS Revolution Motherboard - a review of the board can be found here. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/01/05/asus_p8p67_ws_revolution_motherboard_review Asus doesn't have it listed on their website as of yet and I wasn't able to find it at Newegg but my distributor ASI had it already. I do like EVGA boards too but I don't have any plans on installing more than 4 cards into a system because of power concerns. There will be a limit of 5 cards installed in the EVGA because you will run out of PCI-E lanes to support these devices. Each GTX-295 requires at minimum x8 lanes to operate - just because you can plug in the card doesn't mean it will work. Also if you do turn on USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb some of those lanes will be used or will have to be muliplexed via the NF200 chip and performance will degrade on your disk transfer. I am a big EVGA fan as they make an excellent product, great warranty and support - if their board would have been available now I would have selected it as a first choice for sure. Todd |

The 6th lane is a 4x w/a 16x length and I have a 295 in a 4x slot, It crunches very nicely, So It does work and with no slow down either, Plus I have the RAC to go along with It for the moment. The 295 is in a 4x slot on My Asus P5K Deluxe and It works fine there. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I am hoping to make a build this summer or fall and hoping to get 4 GTX500 series cards in the thing. Probably have to start with 2 then add the other two later on. I will have to keep this in mind. I had been thinking this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188070 but now Newegg and EVGA don't seem to have it anymore. Oh well. The ASUS board should do just fine. Thanks Dan |

I stand corrected - I didn't think that you could install a 295 in a x4 connected slot. However our application is compact and would run within the gpu/frame buffer and would not be the same as say a game with a high transfer of textures - you would see a performance hit there for sure. Todd |

The SR-2 is an amazing board but keep in mind that you do need to run either a single i7-9xx cpu or Xeon processors if you are hoping to go the dual route. You can't install two standard i7's in this board as it is not supported by the processor. To my knowledge the SR-2 is not supported in the HAF-X chassis without modification. EVGA does have a supported chassis recommendation on their site. Most people that I have seen using this board are using Mountain Mod's or DangerDen cases because they offer additional space for watercooling systems or other fancy add-ons. Thus far I haven't seen anyone on here post that they were using this board but over at folding@home there are a bunch. Just haven't done it before but there certainly seems to be plenty of advantages. I have seen some 580s with preinstalled water blocks so that was probably where I was going to head. Looks like ASUS updated their website: http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=dzgoion0wgHoT7tp Dan |

If you are lucky to have a Microcenter near you - they offer these new Intel CPUs with nice discounts - http://www.microcenter.com/storefronts/powerspec/processors.html Like 80 or 90 usd off!!! I have not built a system with one yet but am thinking about it. All this is very interesting. |

My last post here was aimed at Dan, As to an SR-2, Yeah It does need a case from eVGA, but then It's non-standard in Its size, Nice board, Just not for Me. I'm going water cooling on My HAF-932/eVGA P55 Classified build, I don't have all the parts yet, I'm just missing two vid-nx295s water blocks, some fittings to link all six blocks and yep a final GTX295. Until that monster is built I'm going to borrow the CoolerMaster Elite 360(It's My HTPC case, So a 950w Corsair TX psu is It) which cause of It's small size will hold a GTX295, But no psu that I know of will fit in there and power It, So I'll end up getting either an MSI N460GTX Cyclone 1GD5/OC or the 560 equivalent(the MSI 460 will work with a Corsair 950w TX psu), Although for the moment It will have an MSI 6200 video card in the case as that will fit and It's what I have. Thanks for checking on me VW. Like I said, it will be a few months before I can start buying parts. When the time comes I will fully research my options again and hopefully find a board like that SR2. If not, just have to make sure it can handle four x16 video cards and then find a power supply big enough or find a case for two power supplies. Dan |

I broke down and bought an Asus P8P67 WS Revolution motherboard (not really big on Asus though) a new Intel Sandy Bridge 2600K 3.4Ghz Unlocked, Corsair H70 Watercooler, 4GB Corsair Dominator DDR3-2133, Thermaltake 1200 watt power supply, CoolerMaster HAF-X chassis, just dumped in a Hitachi 500GB drive since I don't need to do any major storage on it and 4 EVGA GTX-570's. And yes it is overclocked to 4.5Ghz and HyperThreading is turned on - these numbers are amazing as you can see! These new BIOS's take a bit to get used to - totally different layout and pretty confusing. Heck you can even use a mouse! Since the project upload server is offline I can't post a machine ID for anyone to look at. But listed below is the details under the messages tab.

Todd, you offered some ATI-enabled host for OpenCL apps testing, maybe you could try how OpenCL behaves on this new host instead (in its Intel, not NV part) |

With 32nm range intel played 2 big games quite successfully that for 3 years range 2 different cpu sets for different mobos. The big question is with 22nm range how many games would intel play 2 or 3?! ;D Mandtugai! |

Had problems with the ATI card it that system that I talked about but going to build up something for you shortly. I have coming an Intel P67BG board and 2500k but there is no video on this board - it requires an outboard card. What would you like to see for a testbed machine? Todd |

Regarding ATi - multy-GPU rigs still not quite tested. Morten has poor performance issues with his HD5970s but these GPUs are dual-core and not officially supported by ATi. It would be nice to test multi-GPU config on something more "traditional" too :) |
