If u don't want GPU to resume, u can still use my script to turn it off entirely while u need it for other purposes. |

Sorry it took me so long to reply. It takes me about 2.5-3.0 hours to run an astropulse unit on the 5870. It's considerably better than running it on the CPUs that I have. It takes almost 12-14 hours on my Q6000. So it's a significant difference. I really wish amd would take the initiative and help the seti project by making an ati stream app, because this 5870 is insanely fast and I'd love to see it crunching the normal apps when the astropulse aren't available. According to the preferences, it's blowing both the CPUs and the 460s out of the water. It says 15.99 Gflops/sec for the estimated speed on the 5870 (astropulse) unit that I'm currently running. It's about 40% through this particular work unit and it's been about an hour and 20 minutes. According to msi afterburner, the GPU is barely being used too, it's going from 0% up to 25%, then to 12%...bouncing around a lot. Occasionally I get one that uses 50-60% of the GPU. I can't get it to run 2 at the same time, unfortunately. As it stands now, the 460 is still blowing the 5870 out of the water in terms of overall RAC because the 460s crunch all the time (no waiting for astropulse units, which sometimes are few and far between) and the 460 is being used to its fullest, whether I run 1 or 2 units per 460. They're ridiculously fast, and when you consider their price, they're pretty much a no-brainer. However, if amd pulls their head out of their rear and helps seti with an application, I have a feeling that the 5870 will run right over the 460s. Unfortunately, I just don't see amd ever helping out with an app for seti, and that's a shame because it would be a mighty huge PR boost if an amd/ati GPU found signs of extraterrestrial life. ;) -baron_iv Proud member of: GPU Users Group |

Well it's running continuously now, and I don't know why. Not seeing any errors anymore, but maybe I missed them because once it reports, they clear out. Is there a way to see errors in the past 24 hours, even after reporting and they're cleared from the task list tab? BTW, running stock cuda, with "don't use GPU when computer is in use, 3 min timeout" gave 5833/day over 6 days. Switching to Lunatics cuda + use (almost) all the time = 8000/day over 2 days. Not sure how much of the 2200 additional per day are due to the optimized cuda and how much to run even when gpu is in use (by, say, a game.) |

Well it's running continuously now, and I don't know why. Not seeing any errors anymore, but maybe I missed them because once it reports, they clear out. An error causes a reissue to another host, and that reissue goes at the end of the ready to send queue so isn't sent for a few hours. Adding that delay to the 6 hour purge delay after the WU is finally resolved means that the host's task list with only errors shown ( http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=5725657&offset=0&show_names=0&state=5&appid=) ought to show all errors for about 10 hours minimum. Typically they will show for more than a day, the host getting the reissue has many other tasks in its cache. Joe |

Hi Granted it's not DOA, then you will certainly see a big increase on RAC. Make sure you have the proper PSU for it and sufficient cooling! |

Did you get the single-slot version of that card? |

@ Manuel Palacios I hope it's not dead on arrival which has happened to me before! My power supply is ULTRA 650 watt ATX about 2 years old. I think it is a single rail. Bye Paul |

Got the PNY 1GB GTX 460 at Best Buy. It was cheaper than the official NVIDIA-produced 768MB, and roughly equal to another 3rd party 768MB card. So PNY it is. |

I got my card in 460. Now I need how to configure my cc_config file so my card can do 2 units at once I have seen to change it to .5 from 1. Here is my file as it is what do I need to change? - <cc_config> - <options> <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> </options> </cc_config> |

Paul, It's not in your cc_config it's in your app_info file. For an example, <app_version> <app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name> <version_num>608</version_num> <platform>windows_intelx86</platform> <plan_class>cuda</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>0.040000</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>0.040000</max_ncpus> <coproc> <type>CUDA</type> <count>1</count> Where it says count 1 change it to count .5. Do that for every place you see count. Note mine isn't for fermi but just an example. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

@ perryjay Thanks I get this message unrecognized tag cc_config.xml <use_all_gpus> what should I do I had 2 cards now I have 1? I do not have app_info file. When I create mine should I cut and paste from your post? Like this <app_version> <app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name> <version_num>608</version_num> <platform>windows_intelx86</platform> <plan_class>cuda</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>0.040000</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>0.040000</max_ncpus> <coproc> <type>CUDA</type> <count>1</count> </coproc> </app_version> |

An app_info.xml file will only be present if you are running optimized apps or specifically added it. It can then be found in the BoincData/projects/seti directory. Use a plain editor like notepad for modifying. Change all occurances of <count>1</count> to 0.5. NB this is only suitable for Fermi only setups. If you run mixed eg 260/460 you can't increase to multithreaded, because it'd try to do that on the 260 as well. Carola ------- I'm multilingual - I can misunderstand people in several languages! |

Sorry Paul, didn't realize you were not running optimized. The best thing to do is go to Lunatic's download page http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;catd=9 dowload the proper installer for your system,(looks like you would need the 32bit installer) and run it. It will load the proper app_info for your system after asking you a couple of easy questions. Then find the app_info in your program data/boinc/projects/setiathome folder and open it with notepad. Be sure to shut BOINC down completely before you make any changes. Go through and find everywhere it says count 1 and change it to count.5. I don't have a Fermi card so I'm not sure my entry will look exactly the same as what you will get. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |
