Just in case there's anyone who doesn't know the rules for this little clambake, the basics are:

Winner posts a picture (visually funny, or not...) for captioning... waits a minimum of 24 hours or for 10 captions, but no longer than 48 hours. The poster of the picture decides the new winner, second, and third places; according to his/her sense of humor. He also sends the next winner a personal message (PM). The poster's caption isn't eligible, BTW...

If the new winner doesn't respond in 24 hours, the holder of second place is up... and similarly, third place. (It's happened...)

The only time for off-topic chat is between rounds, after a winner is declared, but before the next picture goes up.

It's hard to soar like an eagle when one is surrounded by turkeys.

A fence-line watcher captured this photo of the latest USAF Stealth Bomber. It is not just the radar image that looks like a bird.

The easiest way to tell the different types of eagles apart, is by the taste.

OK, its judgin' time...

First off, dis-honorable mention (and a negative Audubon Society birdwatcher award...) to everyone that mis-identified this subject bird as a Turkey Meleogris gallopava... that was a Turkey Vulture Cathartes aura, despite the closeness of Thanksgiving (tomorrow in the USA, as I write...) These are turkeys!

Third place: Carlos with "Turkey on final approach."

Second place: VW Bobier with "Houston, We have a Turkey shoot, Fire at will."

First place and next photo: John McLeod VII for his:

[SPLAT!}

OK, you got me.

Take it away, John! (I'm assuming here that the splat is something falling!) PM sent!

Turkey Vultures have a nasty habit of dropping a load to reduce take-off weight if surprised on carrion — needless to say, it isn't a pleasant experience!

Yes, but there are more Wild Turkeys in the lower 48 than there are Bald Eagles!
