Oh happy happy happy days, a symmetrical cinder cone!

I think its in the Coso volcanic field and although there are many I think that one is Red Hill north of Little Lake - which is eruptive c.10,000 years ago (yesterday to a geologist) and is dated as likely the youngest eruptive in this field. There is another perhaps more publically 'famous' cinder cone just off Route 66; but that one is a longer hike to see a so-so (no-snow) cone.

But your question is: what is the name of that crack in the rock in the earlier photo that presumably has petroglyphs in it?
Ans: I have not got the slightest clue. I hope it is not called a "canyon" though; it would shame all the other self-respecting ones ... .

Thanks for the great after-work photo!

You are screaming hot, just like the lava when it flowed.

We have a correct answer through PM. The person that guessed is out for a few days. If you have not gotten it by the time he returns, he is likely to win.

I think it's Snow Creek Falls in Yosemite Valley, Yosemite national park?

We have a winner.

Looks like a prototype of vehicle....
A man-only-driven car. Or should I better say a muscle-only-driven car?
A muscle powered car?

It's the automotive equivalent of the famed "flying purple-people-eater"; complete with hearts on the wheel caps!

Okay; looking beyond the psychedelic paint job and hearts, I'll guess it is a battery powered and remotely controlled car; the first 1 to 1 scale model to achieve driving across the parking lot without stopping for munchies.

What enquiring minds really need to know though: does this baby have fuzzy dice?

Good try PT, but no, there are no batteries. Dunno about the dice.... :-)

Has Austin Powers something to do with it by chance?

Is that one of those air powered monstrosities? (10% efficiency well to wheel where a normal IC is 20% efficient well to wheel).

Morning all, back on duty again. No sorry, nothing to do with air, but you are all on the right track, it is the propulsion system which is unique.

Clue : it has won a prize.

For what? Ugliest car ever?

You being British and all, I was thinking that it could have been a Maggie Thatcher-inspired defense project to counter the threat posed by invasion of Yellow Submarines. Clearly wrong, as Austin Powers would have been involved. Glad you cleared that up earlier. (I’m briefly back on the psychedelic theme) :)

As for “prize winning”, I’ve illegally searched for Motor Vehicle’s “Bubble Car of the Year” but strangely they don’t have that category.

Steve thinks ‘Rubber Band Car of the Year’; I didn’t look for that one; great suggestion … .

Constructive comments may follow … .
