Hopefully the Jet stream will change direction or preferably the Volcano will go and be quiet...

Neither look likely in the immediate future ...

I agree Chris. Can't see airspace being reopened tomorrow either. My father is due to fly back to the UK in the morning and I've just had to call him and break the news - he's not best pleased, but understands the risks of volcanic ash having worked in the aircraft industry most of his life.

So many people on the news whining about it, like anyone has the power to stop nature doing it's thing!

I just got hold of this info,

This is the situation with airspace across Europe, according to Eurocontrol. All times are British.

- UK airspace is unavailable

- Denmark north and west are unavailable

- Denmark east is expected to become unavailable in the course of the afternoon

- Northern Sweden is unavailable

- Southern Sweden is expected to become unavailable in the course of the afternoon

- Irish airspace (except for Oceanic airspace) expected to become unavailable progressively during the afternoon

- Amsterdam and Rotterdam are expected to become unavailable from 6pm

- Brussels north sectors will become unavailable from 2.30pm

- Brussels airspace expected to become unavailable from 3.30pm

- France to close 24 airports, including two near Paris, from 10pm.

Hey, how about a defense weapon that throws volcanic ash up to stop the ...

Until the wind changes or the Gods decide to throttle back, air travel is grounded.

While they sit and wait, I'll take a win.

Well it has to be said. This IS the 21st Century, I can't believe that aircraft engine manufacturers cannot work out how to incorporate some sort of filter to avoid this problem. Perhaps they have never been pressurised to do so before....

It would be a hellishly expensive exercise to undertake given that something of this scale has never happened before - and maybe won't again for another couple of hundred years?

My Dad is stuck in Spain, due to fly home in the morning. I don't think he'll be too upset about being stuck there though - better than being stuck IN the UK ;)

Well, I don't think it is possible. The filter will clog so fast with ash that it would need to be changed every few seconds of flight.

@Andy, he could hop a flight to France and then catch the chunnel. Might want to start checking this out before it gets booked solid for a month. No telling how long mother nature is going to keep spewing ash.

He really isn't in any sort of hurry! Called him again a short while ago. He has his own place there and is retired, so if it takes a month, it takes a month. Nice life huh?

Me either. I've recently had Hormel smoked ham in a can. I like it with melted mozzarella cheese on bread.

Darnit, now I'm hungry..

The post that was wind damaged, has been fixed twice, This time It has an Auger mount in the ground and a bracket at the top and a plate inside the channel above the bracket that's attached to the twin posts.

Before Repairs, After Repairs...

The cost to Me? $40.00 total, But It's now done. Next time I'll have to replace a roof panel as It's got a second crack in the metal, Just not now as I'm almost broke now once again. :D

If you get a refund, it means you just gave the government an interest free loan of your money. I am also guilty as charged because I also received a small refund on the Federal taxes.
