Message 983445 - Posted: 25 Mar 2010, 7:05:03 UTC - in response to Message 983441.

I obviously don't share Sirius's luck!

I play 2 lines a week for the last 5 years (£520) and have won just £30!

After that 1st win, didn't enjoy any more luck for over 13 months so decided to stop using fixed numbers.

ALL wins since then have all been Lucky Dips.

Also, both Andrea & I have never really wished or dreamed of the "BIG ONE", just always thought that 5 numbers would come in very handy.

It's been mostly between £900 to £4k & most of mine have been in the £2 to £3k region, except once, when there were a hell of a lot of 5 no winners & picked up £672.

On the strength of that post I have just logged in to my lottery account and changed from a fixed set of numbers (which I don't know anyway) to Lucky Dip.

- If I don't start winning soon I'll be after you LOL.

Strange thing is the odds SHOULD be the same!

Good luck then Andy. My last post was an honest one. I really don't care about the jackpot. £3k to £9k a year is good enough for us & it's TAX-FREE!

With the misfortunes both Andrea & I have experienced in life, a welcome win is a godsend.

Could really do with another 5 no win soon as Andrea had an accident on the 10th - badly broke her forearm which needed an operation. As she earns under the SSP entitlement, we are missing her £300 a month income, & she has been signed off work until the 16th April at least.

Edit: - BUT if it works for you - I'll take 10%

Ouch, sorry to hear that Andy. IMPORTANT TIP for you then. If you can, try to maintain the lottery every week. I've found that being consistent with it, pays dividends.

You never know, your luck might pop up a nice win at the right time.

We do £2 per draw a week. 1 lotto line & 1 hot pick 2 (if this comes up it pays £40).

It's easy to win the lottery. Just don't play it.

You'll spend more money into it than you get out. By not playing NZ lotto for the past 10 years (at $6.50 a ticket), I've saved $3380!!! Yay!

That depends on how lucky a person you are.

Total outlay for the last 15 & half years = £3,176.00

Total returns = £90k approx as I didn't keep detailed records until 2007.

1st big win was for £3,122.00 back in June '95.

No such thing as luck. It's all a combination of probability, statistics and chance.

Chance of extra money if you don't play lotteries = 1 (certain, since you don't waste your money on it)
Chance of extra money if you do play lotteries = <1 (uncertain, could win your money back, but not guaranteed).

I'm a very rational person. I don't believe in psychics, religion, horoscopes, or gambling. Nor do I smoke, but I do casually drink.

Anyway, good luck (no pun intended, LOL) to you Sirius. May you be lucky (LOL, also no pun intended) enough to experience another win!

The best run we ever had was Dec 07. 11 draws that month & we won on 9. Total returns was £365.00 & all lucky dips.

I'm the same Luke. I've never regarded myself as lucky (well not for the 1st 40 years of my life anyway).

Since I lost my mother in June 97, I've often wondered......

....& still haven't found any answers, so don't know why I'm that successful on the lottery.

edit: - With only 49 numbers used, it can't be truly random IMV.

Here We call numbers that are picked by the system a Quick Pick(Which If I read You right the Lucky Dip may be the same as the Quick Pick or nearly), Which is how I'm playing this month, As the clerk jumped the gun before I could suggest Mine, No problem really as It's just for fun really, So I'm not worrying about the $8 spent.

I used to, but after 2 years of regular lottery, felt wasn't lucky enough. so tried lucky dips (yes SJ, exactly the same as Quick Pick).

Since changing over..........

Wish I could be lucky at S@H.....EVERY time I attempt to reach the 1st mill, I seem to crash the servers.......

Darn it, isn't there any pride in this country anymore?

The "Ontario Teachers Pension Plan" known as Teachers, has just bought out Camelot, the company that operates the UK Lottery.

I bet within 6 months, the cost of the tickets doubles.......

- Luke.

I never did until I went to Laughlin Nevada one night and walked in and put 5 nickels in the first slot machine I got to and hit Genies. Then learned how to play craps got extremely drunk and woke up with over $5000.00 in my pocket. Didn't matter what I bet on all night I won. Got really cocky and even walked up to tables and told them if they wanted to win they would bet with me...and the ones that did won. I have never had a night like that again and wouldn't spend more than $20 at a casino but that was all I had that night to begin with...I believe I have had 3 days in my life that were just lucky and nothing else could explain the things that happened.

The trick whre gambling/luck is concerned is to set strict limits on yourself & always quit when you're ahead.

We never do more than 2 lines per draw unless it's a rollover & then only another 2 lines, that's all.

Don't think so!

The UK has been outsourced ;)

Apart from the MPs, who still have their snouts very much in the trough.

okay...
lets start with a three number game...
like Pick Three...
possible numbers from 000 to 999.
if you graph the sum (000=0 and 999=27)
of all winning numbers...
you will have a bell curve.
the exact middle is 13.5 which is impossible
so effectively the crest of the curve is shared
by 13 and 14. ie., numbers adding up to 13 or 14
have a higher probability to win.

I'd agree with that. I won a massive £6.00 last weekend, and I'm going for broke and playing the lot on 2xEuro lotto and 2xlotto lotto. If I win big again I'll probably blow the lot on the next weeks lotto again.

VW, that was my first win in years. You'd think I had won millions the way I was excited. But It's my turn soon, I just know it is...
