I'm sure some people have noticed me asking about well a good pc build is at the moment. This time I am asking for peoples input as to what's good & what's not. I intend on using my pc for Boinc playing some games mainly racing V8 Suppercars 3, Burnout Paradise. here is what I'm thinking of going with so far.

Motherboard: ASUS 6PT Deluxe V2 Is this the best board to go with or is the AsRock brand better?

CPU: i7 960 3.2GHz Is it best to go with zelman cpu cooler?

Gfx: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 285 I want a 295 but where I got price from couldn't locate one when I was talking to them on phone.

Ram: adata Extreame 8GB (1300 I think)

PSU: 800 watt

Case: It's a gaming case of some sort.

Comes with a three year warranty as standard it comes to $5,200 not sure if includes GST. Comes with a 500GB Sata 32MB hard drive Windows 7 pro 64 bit & a dvd drive.

I will be getting a pro to build my rig reason I'm
confined to a wheelchair.

Any suggestions, changes welcome.

I have also heard that I fives start faster than I seven. Can anybody confirm this?

Here's My suggestions

CPU: i7 960 3.2GHz
(Note: the 610 Bios or newer will be compatible with this cpu, You could even use a 980X cpu - 901 Bios and newer)

Gfx: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 285 I want a 295 but where I got price from couldn't locate one when I was talking to them on phone.
(Note: Your 285 will be ok, The 295 is out of production now & is only found used, Soon the 470 and 480 cards will be for sale)

Ram: 4GB 1600MHz
(Note: whatever brand is compatible at this speed with Your motherboard, Check Asus as their support website: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx has a file or two on memory called the: Qualified Vendor List (2))

PSU: Corsair CMPSU-850HX 850-Watt psu
(Note: single 12v rail part modular psu, main power cable is dedicated)

Case: Cooler Master HAF-922 case
(Note: The entire front of the case is filtered(for Dust) & It will take a 12" long video card like the 5970)

Nice build Jarod! You just have to up my i7 system don't you? ;)

Personally, I'd hold off on a system like that for the release of the GTX470 & GTX480 GPU's.

Dude, do you use pricespy.co.nz? I suggest you go there, you might find cheaper prices there, but don't trust OC Zone, they use the bait scam.

Also, about the mobo, ASUS is always rock solid. Definitely my top choice. However, you might be able to grab the P6T Deluxe V1 for cheaper than the V2, the V2's changes are minimal and not worth the upgrade. I use the V1 anyway.

PM me if you have any concerns. You already have my email don't you?

Regards,
Luke.

By the way, to the Americans, when Jarod posted the price of NZ$5200, that is roughly US$3700.

That's a heck of a lot.

I would save 300 bucks, buying i7-920 or 930, and with Asus P6T Deluxe V2 it will turn into 960 in a single reboot time.
Also, to get maximum performance, when all the cores work simultaneously, get faster memory(frequency and latencies). Slow memory can really, really cripple any multicore processor. 1600 MHz 8-8-8-24 would do(I would preffer 7-7-7-20 or something, there are good kits from GSkill e.g with reasonable prices).
You mention 8 GBs. Are you planning to run in dual-channel mode, instead of tripple?

There are a couple of reasons why I want to go with the 960 1 is I've always said to myself that I want a CPU to run at @ 3.2GHZ

2nd I said reason why I was going with the motherboard I had asked for was cause I wanted a good ocing board. The company that I got the 5k figure from said to me that if I oced any components that I'd void the warrenty.

3rd Reason is I do not have a/c & I believe that ocing puts extra strain on components reducing their life span if the the room doesn't have enough cooling. I plan to run tipple channel ram not quite sure why I was quoted with 8.

I'm planning on going to the company on Monday New Zealand time Sunday US to go over exactly what I want. I'm not sure when I will be buying at this stage I just want to get a costing at this stage. Will probably build in two to three months.

Reason I can't build pc myself is I have Cerbral Palsy. My hands will not allow me to work in confined spaces.

A GTX295? That can't be New, Nvidia has stopped production months back, As there aren't any new ones to be had here in the US and I think that applies to ebay too, But used ones do appear there of course. :D

Here's the build I think I'm going with, price includes GST, factory overclock to 4.0GHZ built & delivered to my door + 2 years warranty.

    Intel Core i7 980X Extreme 3.33Ghz 12MB 1333Mhz LGA1366
    ASUS P6X58D Premium X58 DDR3 ATX PCi-E
Patriot Viper II 12GB (6x2GB) DDR3-2000 CL8 (factory oced to keep at 2000)
    2x Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200RPM SATA II
    Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler LGA1366
    Arctic Cooling 120mm Case Fan
Corsair HX650 650W Modular Power Supply
ASUS DRW-22B2ST Power Saving X Multi DVD Writer
ASUS nVidia Geforce GTX480 1536MB PCI-E available mid April
CoolerMaster HAF 932 High Air Flow Case
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit OEM

    Total = NZ $6,069 US $4,219.78
Total without over clock is about NZ $5,950 US $4,137.04

Who thinks it's a good idea to go the factory oc way?

One of the reasons I've gone for 12GB ram is future proofing& Windows takes a minimum of 2GB & I've worked out I'd like a minimum of agig per thread. I will be running projects like Seti, Burp, Rosie maybe Climate change & of cause a few cuda projects.

If anything this price will drop by the time I buy it.

I would recommend putting a Scythe Mugen-2 on that CPU (http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/cpu/040/scmg2000_detail.html). It's one of the best coolers for the money.

No way... nothing beats the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme 1366RT equipped with dual Scythe Ultra KAZE 3000rpm 133cfm 120m fans.

Best CPU cooler in the business equipped with the best fans in the business. Unbeatable.

Thats a lot of money to spend on a rig and with out reading up on the i7 980x and looking to see what it brings in in points per day or RAC depending what you are running I am not sure if its worth the extra cost. The i7 920 were getting some good reviews and are about a 5th of the price of the i7 980x.

As the GTX 480 is only out is small quantities at the moment there is no real data available to confirm if this GPU is going to beat current Nvidia GPU's running cuda apps. As you may find two cheaper cards will perform better.

What sort of time frame are you looking to get the new computer?

Except by Prolimatech Megahalems, Noctua DH-14, IFX-14 and Prolimatech Armageddon(in near future, when its available).
Even True Copper cannot be compared to "items" in this list. Veni, vidi, vici :)

Actually, I'm gonna kick out my Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, bcs of most stupid mounting system I ever seen with top class cooler. Happily, 1366 CPUs has wider heatspreader and downside of mounitng is not that big PITA, but still remains slippery thing.

Delta fans are hard to come by here. I don't think there would be a great deal of a temperature decrease by using one of those Delta 200cfm fans as opposed to the Scythe 133cfm fans... more of a NOISE increase. But also, if your prepared to live with the noise a Ultra KAZE generates, you'd probably be fine with the noise a Delta 200cfm generates.

I agree... the mounting system included with the U120E 1366RT is pathetic. Plus it isn't capable of mounting a 38mm width fan (which the Scythe Ultra KAZE is)... only a max of 25mm.

I just searched for a pair of those wire clips that the old U120E included. Only cost me $8. I initially had thoughts that the wire clips wouldn't have been able to support the weight of the KAZE... they do look quite flimsy IMHO.

Regards,

I have one @ 200cfm and I bought It awhile back(over 1yr back) to see how loud It was and decided It was too much, I've used some @ 130cfm that I have here and some that are between 148cfm and 151cfm, ebay has them from time to time, But then being where You are, You have to get what You can, Me I have a problem of My own and It involves the Post Office returning to sender an item that I ordered that was already paid for(The boss of My local Post Office is on vacation and the person on duty saw no PO Box number and simply followed procedure and returned It), Now If I want It I may have to choose between TP, repairs to My carport or powdered SB creamer and now I'm almost broke again, Otherwise I'm out $7.95(shipping was Free) all cause of a new Postal Employee. :(

Just browsing around in the top computers list there's this: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5082339. It's the 8th highest at the moment with a RAC of: 35,668.86.

A rough guide to go by, given your specs.
