Many thousands of kibbles, and about $300.00 a month for the juice to run the lot.
During the winter, some of that is offset by the furnace not running, but with the weather warming up, I have had to start shedding some heat by leaving the door to the garage open.

Not sure what the temps in Wisconsin are like in summer, but when you get 3 computers in one small unused bedroom in 30 degree heat, all I can do is simply open the window and turn on the fan.

I have to start cooling the house when it gets up to about 35f outside....
And I can keep things in check with a vent fan in the garage drawing in outside air until it gets up to about 65f. Anything more than that, and I have to start using the AC.

I have a half basement next door and a big exhaust fan in the attic. Have only had to use A/C twice in a few years. Wish I had a basement here but at least my new computer room is in the coldest part of the house. Hmmmm, Seti did inspire my remodel.

Hi Sutaru, Looks like you have shut your big gun down. Too many problems with a confused Boinc? Hope to see you back up there soon but thanks for making room for my dash.

Yea but look at all the fun you have had, fixing broken computers because they are broke, fixing broken computers because boinc is broken and you think it is your computer. LOL

if boinc is broke why would i fix a computer that isn't broke?
i just cut it off when it has run thru the cache.
and wait for the "brain trust" at seti to fix their problems.

Two used 8800 Ultra and a Enermax from eBay 350 Euro. 2 broken GPU 160 Euro. I crunch SETI only weekends, i will not feed the 500 watt/h monster the whole week. If the GTX 480 is on the market end of march prices for GTX 295 will drop. Time for Sutaru to build a real huge cruncher. I will not, i converted enough money into credits and heat for SETI.

I am always amazed at how much people around the world pay for their electricity.

My landlord complains about how much he spends on electricity for the building (let's not tell him about the crunching going on up on the 3rd floor, okay?) but it is only about $0.07 / kwhr here.

I calculate that, at about 200w, I am only costing him about $10 a month. Of course, that may change if/when I can afford a GPU . . . ;)

New Hardware for S@H cruncher --> $700 (but use it for far more than just S@H, so not totally fair to amortize it to just that).

Actually, S@H is probably my cheapest hobby ever! I spent more on fireworks growing up. More importantly, in crash course fashion I updated my hardware knowledge & build skills in the process --> sincere interest has a way of raising the bar in a way that 9-to-5 jobs just can't, it was cheap tuition.

So it's been a ton of fun (challenging, enjoyable), and keeps me out of jail (ok, that was never a risk, but you get the point ... if you don't get out what you put into a hobby, find another hobby, or be happy with jail).

PS: @Luke, don't forget, invested time is money too ;-)

Me I currently crunch using an old relic, A QX6700 B1(ES) cpu[3.30GHz right now], My cpu is where Quads all started at, My 2nd PC is down until I can get a cpu and ram around December as It's an 1156 PC, I have a 3rd PC, But until I can do a Bios upgrade from HP to MSI It'll stay as an auxiliary TV, How much do I spend on Electricity? About $50 right now, In the Summer maybe $20 higher(which will off set My gas heating bill by $20 in the summer), Running the 1156 PC in the way I want will require a 1250w psu, So there goes another $300 or so then and that doesn't include the water cooling stuff(It'll be air until then as the cpu heatsink is paid for already), Once past 2012 I'll just have small stuff to get and by the end of 2012 I should be able to put both PCs online with 5 video cards(all 295's? Who knows?), a few washable dust filters and have the 100 gallon fish tank working too(with 2 PCs and the Tank My electric bill may be $100-$150 a month, The Tank has four 65w-96w power compact lamps for live plants, there are a few other items for the tank, But I doubt the huge filter, air pump, 400w heater, etc will amount to much). :D

Comparing that to the approx $1000 per year that I give to assorted humanist (non-religious) charities that I endorse,

Just another reason I have KenzieB as a friend. :)

For the past 3 months my electric bills are about $300 less then they were last year. The bills show a lower average outside temp. So my lower bills must be from the added heat from running SETI on my home machines. I guess that makes me -$300 that I have spent on SETI then? I have a feeling this may not hold true for the summer tho. :/

I just bought a bunch of cheap refurbished workstations (2.7Ghz, 1GB DDR2(12 = 515€) (=> 42.91€/unit)) and a server(100€).

Made all workstations diskless and the server got Dotsch/UX 1.1

Currently, I'm still testing with various benchmark app's, but they'll be online soonish.

Measured a high of 1640 kWh...estimated cost -> 921.45€

Estimated total of 1,536.45 € first year
or 128.04 €/month, first year...
With no more buys, next year 76.79 €/month.

I still can not understand, why so many people spend so much money in Hardware and energy. I crunch for Seti, because I can. I never spend a cent to buy special Hardware. If I can't pay th bill, I can not have a beer. I bought a 9600GT not for crunching cuda. If my Pc would not be "big enogh" for crunching,I would buy a bigger one with the biggest GPU/CPU coult get for money, shure! :O))) All for crunching. Some dicussions I can realy not understand. What will Sutaru say? Sometimes I think: " Look I'm No. 1 in Germany, look my machines, look, how much money I spend. If I look around, I see more and more jobless and poor people. And a few others get richer and richer. I hope that we will still can buy toys in a few years. Sorry Sutaru I don't know you, but I like you. And sometimes I think you are a self-actor.

People spend what they can, Or they do a lot of upgrading of their PCs, Which over time become new PCs, No one says they have to of course, So It makes a diverting and harmless hobby.
