OK, I understood now, I was thinking that Seti was like some engineering softwares used for Finite Element Stress or Air flow or Heat Flow analisys that use a calculation front line wich size is memory avalilability dependant and this is an idea for you to consider for future developments.
Thanks very much,
Eduardo

Well, there is a little of that. < 32MB, no SETI. < 96MB, no screen saver. Other projects have much different requirements. CPDN takes around 1GB / task for example.

Does Astropulse use more memory? I mean to take more advantage of the available capacity.

I really care for SETI and I'd like to stay 100% SETI but I guess there's also a sense in using the pc entirely.

Does anybody can tell how much of memory does Climate Prediction or LHC use?

One or two out of these 3 will do.

Thanks,

Eduardo

AstroPulse uses roughly the same amount of RAM as MultiBeam does, around 32-96MB. ClimatePrediction has some workunits that will use up to 1.5GB of RAM. Superlink@Technion (which has been out of work for nearly a year) has an application that requires 1GB of RAM. I'm not sure how much LHC uses.

LHC has also been mostly out of work for over a year.

I'm about to upgrad from Windows Vista business 32 to Window 7 pro 32 and upgrading my processor. My question is whether there is anything I need to do with my BOINC/Seti@home. I have the latest release installed. Will I need to reinstall? Will BOINC stay alive and just keep on rolling? Will I lose any work?

You'd best set Seti to No New tasks, run your cache dry and make sure everything uploaded & reported before making the changes.

You're going to change OS, but since they're both Windows versions, that'll keep the hostID intact. However, you also upgrade your CPU, which may make another hostID. If that's the case, the work appointed to the old hostID will not be done on the new one.

I also think you will have to reinstall BOINC, since your new Windows will overwrite everything about your old Windows (probably even reformat the hard drive). So unless BOINC has its program and data directories on another partition or hard drive, you'll be losing them. And even if they are on another drive/partition, your new Windows, once installed will start with a fresh registry, not knowing anything about BOINC, so you would have to reinstall.

Vista and 7 have the same restrictions on where programs run. You should not lose any work. You should not have to reinstall (but I won't guarantee this one).

Good news. CPU and OS upgrades complete. No apparent problems with BOINC. No apparent work loss. No reinstall needed. Thanks folks.
