From New Scientist I have learned of a project of the SETI Institute to have the data coming from the Allen Telescope Array crunched by volunteers. They seek developers to help them develop the project and volunteers to process the data. See www.SETIquest.org.
But why don't they use BOINC?

Good Question. I looked and that address does not work or It doesn't exist according to Verizon. You might try this one though, But It's just an announcement that leads no where, Oh sure there's this link(World Wide Web: SETIQuest) But It leads to some sort of search engine that's sort of like Google or Yahoo and according to the WOT extension the link has a bad reputation, So I'd not go there as It may be a site interested in Seti, But a site trying to sell one something and have nothing to do with Seti.

I do not think this has anything to do with the Seti institute. Here is their website: http://www.seti.org/Page.aspx?pid=1366

SetiQuest is mentioned, But the site mentioned earlier isn't supported by the Seti Institute.

Tullio: I was in error on the mentioning as the Seti Institute does mention SetiQuest, As such I'm emailing the Seti Institute a question on this issue and about the setiquest.org and the setiquest.com websites.

I've also asked why the duplication of effort too.

Here's the contact page for the Seti Institute: http://www.setiquest.org/contact

Now the setiquest.org page is working, It may be a DNS issue, So that checks out as I entered from the Seti Institute website and Seti Quest's website finally worked.

Here's a screen grab of when one goes to setiquest.com so far, It's a website that's for sale or something.

Yes, I know, I thought I'd include the .com address as It doesn't go anywhere at the moment. And of course It is named setiquest.com...

Haha. Seriously, tho, I love SAH for the community but it sure would be nice if a project came along that had a hope-in-heck of succeeding. :o)

SETIquest is not a competitor. All of you should know that and have at least read one verifiable story.
Volunteers can only look and sift manually through data and pick out bits that could be ETI. Very inefficient, and I think most will only be inquisitive and look once.
SETI opens its data up to citizen scientists.
Also, on the above link, read the comments.

Ok does this sound like picking through their data? Sounds like They want to reinvent the wheel:

Seti Institute wrote:

What is setiQuest?

For centuries humans have looked at the stars and wondered “are we alone?” Now, setiQuest is an opportunity for you to help answer that question. In 1960, Frank Drake conducted the first scientific search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). Since then, scientists from many countries have conducted more than 100 projects looking for communication signals from other civilizations. With the spread of the Internet in the 21st century, it is now possible for humans around the globe to participate in this new SETI program.

You can participate as a software developer, signal detection algorithm developer, or a citizen scientist.

That doesn't sound like merely looking thru their data, It sounds like they want to have people crunch the numbers and the above quote is from their website(from the Horses Mouth as It were).

I think you misunderstood me. I love this place . . . from a social/community POV. But, from what I understand of SAH's scientific protocols, it would come up with a negative for intelligent life on Earth, so it seems doomed to ultimate failure.

SETI Institute's targeted search idea seems more likely to succeed.

Maybe before we keep searching the far reaches of the great "out there", we should ask Miss Moon what's been coming to visit her... ;)
