My computer room stays at 80F all the time. This computer http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5266723 ,which is OCed to 3.4ghz. What if i put it in the 40F garage. Would it work better/faster?

I have some in the garage right next to my Air Compressor. Dust doesn't bother me a bit and actually our garage is sealed and pretty clean.

Well your computer doesn't really care what temp the room is. It really just matters what the temp of the components get to. If you have sufficient cooling with the room at 80F I wouldn't move it. If you are looking to try and overclock it a bit more then moving out into the cold could help a bit, but I would be concerned about particulates like other have mentioned.

On the other side of the coin. Is your garage 40F in the summer as well, or closer to 140F? Just another option you'd have to weigh when considering moving a system to your garage.

I didn't want to run a network card to the garage but had a wireless laptop that the screen had gone bad with lines. So I bridged the wireless and lan ports and now my garage machine uses the laptop for it's internet. It's an old P4 2.8 @ 3.3 so far....It's just parts no case waiting to go in the fishtank.

I think its a great Idea to put the PC in the garage. Lord knows when I'm changing the plugs on the car that I might just need to check out a youtube video. the problem you are going to have is in the summer. It sounds like your garage isnt heated or cooled so you'll probably be moving that PC out of the garage come spring time

Your right, it gets hot in there during the summer...dusty too with the doors open to cool it. Colder weather coming, temp in the garage will be closer to 30F. This cheap cooling allows more overclocking for the cpu ang gpu. It's hard to pass that up!
