You know, the ones who remind you over and over and over and over and over again of their positions, and tell you to support them no matter what. Whether they deviate, change, or stay the same(in their mind), and spend inordinate amounts of time in their own defence.

It is a dichotomy because these politicians also many, many, many, many times have speeches which declare their independence, difference from other politicos, and originality from the status quo, yet cry out(sometimes actually crying)against the background of their history of doing the same ole, same ole.

It's sad and we almost feel pity for them. But we have to get rid of these politicians who continue to poison the system.

Banish them in 2010. DO NOT LET THEM GET YOUR SUPPORT.

Stack 'em.

In talking about the Haiti tragedy and a donation, my wife and I got on a discussion of the Katrina disaster and how a lot of the cash that was donated to help those people haven't gotten to those residents.

For God's sake, we've STILL got people living in FEMA trailers down there.

I've also spoken to various people living in New Orleans and how promises have been broken by the politicians who are supposed to help them--especially the Mayor Ray Nagin. I have absolutely no doubt some of the funds donated have lined the pockets of various Louisiana politicians.

If we can't ensure that the donated money gets to our own citizens, how can we make sure donated funds get to an entirely different country known for it's governmental corruption??

For God's sake, we've STILL got people living in FEMA trailers down there.

Why?

Is it because their job went away with Katrina and is never coming back? Is it because they were living so far beyond their means that it will be 10 years for the bankruptcy to come off their record? Is it because the land they own has now been correctly labeled as unfit for habitation? Is it because a nice rent subsidized FEMA trailer is cheaper than anything else? I'm sure there are hundreds of reasons, but few good ones.

I've also spoken to various people living in New Orleans and how promises have been broken by the politicians who are supposed to help them--especially the Mayor Ray Nagin. I have absolutely no doubt some of the funds donated have lined the pockets of various Louisiana politicians.

It is the function of Government to line the pockets of the individuals in government. Has been so for all time. Will be for all time to come.

Today however there is no Haitian Government. It mostly ceased to exist with the earthquake. It will take them a while to build up a system strong enough to have graft.

The solution to the donations is of course to not permit the government to ever touch the donation.

I'll give you a point for getting close to the truth.

The actual function of government, as clearly displayed with exceptions such as during the New Deal, WWII and the growth of the union movement during the late 40's and early 50's, is to line the pockets of industry and the already wealthy.

Government has been usurped to protect the wants of those who do not need protection, instead of protecting the needs of those who do.

The vast majority of money spent on these stupid wars in the Middle East has gone to private interests.
The vast majority of money spent in the bail-outs has gone to private hands.

By owning individual members of congress, the senate and the executive, corporate interests and powerful elites have designed a system which transfers public funds to private hands with little or no notice by the public.

Your examples are far too recent. Until the people revolted, the House of Windsor was the Government and all tax collections were the personal property of the House of Windsor. You can say the same back to the Pharos and likely before for most any european government. It is only in very recent history that the government has been anything but the personal business of its head of state.

You mentioned the bail-outs. I was under the impression that 100% of the money went to private interests. After all, it wasn't the government that was being bailed out!

Or people could use my vote choice method. I weigh the campaign stuff. I vote for the guy who has the least amount of junk mail. I assume he is the one who took the least in special interest money and isn't beholden and therefore can do the people's business.

I've actually done this once... I have one of those "Addressed Mail Only" (different from no junk mail - excludes local newspapers as well) signs on my letterbox... And yet, while it was regional elections as few years back... I got all this crap campaign mail from one candidate. So I emailed them and told them I wouldn't be voting for them at all. Never got an reply.

Do people not understand what addressed mail only means?!
It has to have my name on it! Idiots.

And of course my name is... Denny Crane.

Are you sure the people revolted against the House of Windsor (inception 1917)? Perhaps you mean the House of Stuart. Not sure that the English Civil War could be called a "people's revolt" either ...
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

New American Health Care Solution

So you're an American citizen and the government says no health care for you, what do you do?

Our plan gives you a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 senators and 2 representatives, Republicans or Democrats it doesn’t make a difference. Of course, this means you will be sent to prison, where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head, and all the health care you need. New teeth, no problem. Need glasses, great. New hip, knees, kidney, lungs, heart? All covered.

And who will be paying for all of this? The same government that just told you that you can't have health care. Plus, because you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income taxes anymore.

IS THIS A GREAT COUNTRY OR WHAT?!

...and you get lots of free sex, whether you want it or not!

Plus a higher possibility of being killed than where you currently reside (for most of us anyway).

Great way to glorify prison and make it sound like a nice, cozy place to live.

Ozz, lighten up. It's a joke.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the idiots in Congress, the joke is on us.

I thought my comment was pretty light with my "free sex" comment.

Who was it that said "Government is the shadow cast by business over society."?

Chomsky warns against getting angry at the shadow instead of angry at the substance.
Remember that government is the entity you have the most chance of influencing.
Corporations are not accountable to you as a citizen.
