I have 2 GTX295's in my i7 rig but because it is Vista 64bit only 3 GPU's. I also have 2 GTX275's in my AMD rig also Vista. Being Game for a Laugh I have bought an AMD Phenom IIx4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz processor,to go on a cheap m/board with 4 PCI-Express slots. Plus 4Gb of Geil DDR3 2133 memory. When all the parts arrive hopefully later this week I am going to lash it together on the bench with the 4 nVidia cards to see how they perform. XP of course. Any ideas welcome. Dave EDIT All the parts arrived so will start with just the basics CPU Crunching. |

More money than sense, lol! Hope it all goes well, and hope you have got a really decent PSU for them. That will take a lot of juice. You should be able to run 10? tasks at a time? It might be best to leave one cpu core free to 'feed' the GPU's. I know msattler has done some testing with this. I run 4 tasks and a GPU task, and I find that it doesn't slow it down much if at all, but with that number of GPU's? I don't know. I've got a 955 running at 3.6 and a superoverclock [who makes these names up? ;)] Gigabyte GTX260. Best of luck. regards, Gizbar. A proud GPU User Server Donor! |

Hi Gizbar I have 11 tasks running on my i7 at the moment. 3 GPU tasks and 8 CPU tasks no problem.I am going to take the 2 PSU's from my rigs to run this thing LOL. I am going to run CPU tasks to start with to get the rig up and running then add the GPU's. I have 2 GT9600's doing nothing so that will give me a display. Any tests that I can do as I set this rig up please inform me and I will do my best. Dave PS Luke is the culprid. |

I have 2 GTX295's in my i7 rig but because it is Vista 64bit only 3 GPU's. So that should give you 6 GPU's to use right? Should be intresting to see what it makes of things. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

That's the idea. Plus a 3.4GHz or more Quad CPU. Will try to OC it first. Cheap MSI MoBo with 4 slots. Nothing to do on these dark cold snowy nights. Dave |

Hi Gizbar I have 11 tasks running on my i7 at the moment. The i7 may be fine running like that, but there are only 3 GPU's on that setup. If you are trying to run 6, especially 6 high powered GPU's, it might take a bit more to keep them fed. Luke's fault again, huh? (LOL) I'd go for XP64 (needed to cope with all the memory - 4GB on motherboard, ??? for all the GPU's), latest public version of Boinc (6.10.18?), Nvidia drivers 191.07. plus the Lunatics 64-bit optimised app. Can't see how you can use the 9600's for a display if all the slots are taken with the other cards. One of the 275's should easily be sufficient. Then ramp it up and take it away! See what she gives you... If you're intending to overclock, get it running stable on standard clocks first, then see what you can get. <edit> I see now. Run the CPU first with the 9600's and then add in the GPU's later. </edit> Depending on the motherboard, you may be able just to raise the multiplier to get an overclock as the CPU is unlocked. But, you may have to use the equivalent of pushing the FSB (can't remember exactly what it is called at the moment) to achieve the overclock (or both!) regards, Gizbar. Kinda pissed off right now... so I'll reply as nice as I can. Looks like you have a potential #1 cruncher there. I stick with Intel, because it is what I know best. 2 PSU's? Where do you have the space in your case to fit 2 of those buggers? What wattage? If you are going to run the with case side on, remove some (if you have any left) of the PCI-E slots at the back. That's what I did, and it just lets the air flow a bit more freely, and it a allows for a slightly positive case coefficient, I believe. As for the CPU to feed, like gizbar, I run 8 CPU's + 1 GPU, without any problems. My i7 rig has peaked at 3,500 RAC. Really a f****** disappointment. But right now, I'm focusing on other things in life, so I may only be around a few times a week. Before July I will buy an extra GTX-260 (screw Fermi), and I am looking to build my own solar panels to power some of the house for about NZ$300. Yeah, still pissed. PS Luke is the culprit. Luke's fault again, huh? (LOL) Yeah, I seem to do that alot. Even HAL9000 spent some money after watching my thread. - Luke. |

Haven't got a 64bit XP so will have to run 32bit. The GT9600's are only going in the rig to run the basic video for the CPU tasks. When that is running ok I will remove them and add the GTX295's then the GTX275's. I am already running the 19107 driver and OPT Installer. Thanks for the OC info. I am going to sacrifice the RAC on my other rigs for this but total should be moved to this rig as it runs LOL. Input as to how I should proceed appreciated. Dave |

@ Luke as the subject suggests Rig on the BENCH no case. I did also bet that your RAC for your new rig at the end of Jan would be around 16k. Dave |

@ Luke as the subject suggests Rig on the BENCH no case. You should make it there, I am over 31,000 and all I have on you is the GTX275 that can't add that much over you. I still think you will be over 20,000RAC. Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

How can I post pics of the build here easily. Bearing in mind that I am a Silver Surfer. I have Photobucket. Dave |

... As for the CPU to feed, like gizbar, I run 8 CPU's + 1 GPU, without any problems. Luke - I am running 2x Opteron 8354 (8 CPUs @ 2.2GHz) + 1 x GTS 250, Vista 64bit, 4GB RAM, optimized apps and Reschedule (to balance the load) and have RAC around 10-12K (depends on the phase of the Moon). So there must be something you are missing in your system...I haven't the slightest idea what it might be, but it seems clear to me that SOMETHING is wrong. How much RAM do you have? Good luck finding it!!! |

Yeah, I seem to do that alot. Even HAL9000 spent some money after watching my thread. Isn't it always Lukes fault? :D How can I post pics of the build here easily. I think photobucket allows you to display photos in other locations. You can use the img tag [ img ]http://something.com/picture1.jpg[/img] Except you would need to remove the spaces from [ img ]. If not you could put likes to them on photobuck with the url tag [ url=http://something.com/picture1.jpg]link name[/url]. Again removing the space I added to show the text. @Luke: I was going through your completed tasks an noticed very long times on the cpu, the gpu is ok but can do better (try the 2.3 CUDA dll's) comparing to my crappy rig. Just my 1 and a half cent [edit] Another reason for your low RAC probably is that you are not crunching 24/7 The last half cent |

You might not be able to run all those graphics cards on 32-bit. 32-bit windows can only address 4GB of ram, so if you're using 4GB on the motherboard, everything you add above 4GB (read graphics cards) will take memory away from the motherboard. I.e. If you have 4GB of ram and 512MB on the Gfx card, you still get 4GB. The Gfx card needs 512MB of address space, and takes it out of the total amount of 4GB, leaving you 3.5GB of normal ram. If you add all 6 GPU's to this system, you might get less than 1GB for your system ram. Not sure how much ram they all have, but if I assume 896MB for each 275, and 1GB for each 295, then you might only have 400MB left for the system. Hope that's clear for you. regards, Gizbar.
