No We just have good building codes on New construction that get updated after major quakes happen and I felt none of those quakes as I'm too far away, The last quake I felt was from Big Bear Lake a few years back and It was about a 5.8 or so, So being out here has some advantages. Also since the quakes don't bother most(Those in older places and buildings in general I'd think would be bothered as their grandfathered in and I think they only have to be brought up to code if there's some percentage of New construction involved), We just try and ride quakes out as best We can, It's not like Los Angeles is going to slide off into the Pacific(Considering It's on the Pacific plate already, While I'm on the North American Plate here on this side of the ring of fire). :D

Another blasted snow storm forecast today, but much warmer weather due tomorrow afternoon, bringing a rapid thaw and associated flooding, yay!

Unreinforced masonry structures tend to fall apart in the smallest of earthquakes, As to how much of an earthquake will do the deed, I don't know, But in California, It's not legal to build a building or a house with bricks anymore, As their unsafe, Concrete and steel would You'd think be better, But not by much without really good engineering and not relying in God(Allah to Muslims) We trust as that isn't good enough as that is cause and effect(which some do not recognize to exist at their own peril for their religious reasons, which some seek to impose on others by force). But then wood, nails, screws, waferboard panels(for Sheer) and a steel reinforced concrete foundation and floor work well out here(as long as the property is not on an unstable landfill which causes cracks in the floor and foundation, My brother bought a house like that and discovered He'd been taken[swindled], so He had to go bankrupt as the place that built the place was gone and so were the people too), We also try not to have any exposed wood(Termites and fire) or flammable roofs(stucco all the way to the roof), Tile roofing is preferred for modern construction.

Hopefully You'll start warming up soon Andy, At least as soon as the waters offshore do give up some of their heat.

Posting after the news report of a 7.0 Earthquake in Haiti down in the Caribbean. It seems a Hospital down there in the capital has collapsed, ouch. People from Los Amgeles County(Firefighters) are going down there to look for survivors and such.

So far no word on any offer from that "lookie lou" who came by on maybe Thursday and who said He wanted to buy the place without a Real Estate agent in the way, If the place doesn't sell by March, I'm not sure If I'll relist for another 6 months or not(I might as It doesn't cost Me anything) as I'm looking at saving up the money over a period of 12 months(starting in June), then I'd have enough for a 3.5% down payment(on a $33,600 mobile home on a permanent foundation, fireplace, is fenced/gated and has a carport that I'm watching) and enough for moving and utility deposits too. :D

One of our local weather guys did a bit on the news tonight. We've gone 11 days with average temps below 34F. Our normal daily high is 50F. We won't get there tomorrow, but it's looking good for Thursday. Crazy winter.

We've had just the opposite out here, Today It was 68F(20C) today, I actually stepped outside in My short sleeved shirt. :D

And their making small snowmen in Florida or they were at least, Hopefully the rest of the country, Canada and Europe will warm up to normal temps for this time of year. :D
