I'm so glad we have people in these forums who support terrorism...

Acid attack on humans

Laser fired to blind humans

So Sea Shepherd brings weapons to a staged confrontation and uses them without any defensive reason. I believe that is murderous intent. Can we say EFL? Can we say PLO? Can we say bin laden?

I don't care if they are correct about whales, the scum on the Bob Barker belong in Davy Jones locker.

I am so happy people here believe that when they are out voted in a democracy (UN-IWC) that they should take up arms and kill people for their beliefs. Doesn't sound any different than killing people because they don't believe in a particular religion.

DISGUSTED!

So Sea Shepherd brings weapons to a staged confrontation and uses them without any defensive reason. I believe that is murderous intent. ...

Really?

The claims of "acid" by the Japanese is very true: It is also known as rancid rotten butter, it is very smelly, unpleasant, harmless, and is also known as butyric acid.

I take it that you like to imbibe on a little citric acid and carbonic acid on occasion? You also contain lots of amino acids... Does that make you hazardous?

The green laser is a dazzle device and a nice light show for the press.

That lot hardly compares to the military grade weapons that the Japanese use against the Sea Shepherd crew.

Note that Sea Shepherd very deliberately do not target any crew, and they have an unblemished record of having never injured any of the Japanese crew, (or anyone else,) despite whatever provocation.

I don't care if they are correct about whales, the scum on the Bob Barker belong in Davy Jones locker.

Look at my first post. The captain and helm of the Japanese Shonan Maru #2 tried doing just that. It was more by good luck and good fortune than Japanese seamanship that noone was killed.

DISGUSTED!

And so you should be.

The Japanese escapade and corruption is an utter farce. Unfortunately, what is an even greater farce are the political procrastinations that are being used to try to sweep the issue 'under the carpet' to be forgotten. Sea Shepherd are doing a magnificent job of very much keeping the issue in the news...

Meanwhile, the Japanese continue to disgrace themselves.

Utterly disgusted!

Meanwhile, Greenpeace are indirectly in the fight:

Japan denied [the] rights of activists

A UN committee has ruled that the Japanese government repeatedly breached human rights guarantees in pursuit of two Greenpeace whistleblowers who exposed a trade in whale meat.

[...]

Junichi Sato, 32, and Toru Suzuki, 42, were jailed for 26 days without charge after being arrested. The two had seized a box of the meat as part of a Greenpeace investigation into claims that crew from the whaling factory ship Nisshin Maru took home hundreds of kilograms of black market meat at the end of their voyage in April 2008. Greenpeace laid the box out at a press conference in Tokyo, then took it to the city's public prosecutor, seeking action. Instead Mr Sato and Mr Suzuki were arrested soon after for theft.

Since then, those two have in effect been under house arrest ever since, and that was nearly TWO YEARS ago...

Disgusted.

From the latest events, quite a deadpan response from Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd:

Countering Japan’s Ministry of Truth

Commentary by Captain Paul Watson

George Orwell would have understood the silliness of the Japanese Institute for Cetacean Research. Using the word “research” to justify a commercial slaughter of endangered and protected whales is very Orwellian.

[...]

Captain Paul Watson: The whalers are also not allowed into French Territorial waters. It is interesting that the Japanese continue to insist their activities are legal when the nations of France and Australia disallow them to enter their waters. Sea Shepherd ships may freely enter Australian and French territorial waters but the Japanese ships cannot legally do so. That fact in itself establishes the legitimacy of Sea Shepherd actions and the illegitimacy of the Japanese actions.

[...]

Captain Paul Watson: The Japanese security forces are becoming increasingly violent in their efforts to “shake off” our ships from their tail. ...

On this occasion, the Japanese whalers were found by following: "a trail of offal being dumped by the factory ship. Floating ch[u]nks of blubber, bloated intestines, and blood led the Bob Barker to that floating abattoir. It is amusing that the Japanese refer to their slaughter as research."

Do not forget that the whaling moratorium was called by most of the world's nations due to some whale species having already been hunted to extinction never to be seen again, ALL of the large whales species having been hunted down to just a few thousands left, leaving only the smallest and previously not-worth-hunting whales, the minke, that are being hunted now.

Disgusted all the more by the Japanese hypocrisy and outright lies!

You're so far off topic that you are not making any sense. Or have you just answered your own question there?

The Southpark cartoon is a fantastic piece of lampooning and comments nicely on how the Japanese appear to be hell bent on wiping out all sea life by over- exploitation/fishing/harpooning. (Humour alert: Lampoon is also a pun on harpoon...) It draws some good parallels and satire for anyone that can think a little. For those that cannot think beyond the end of their nose, it is still a good piece of outrageously over-the-top commentary.

The Japanese are well out of line on all counts. They are also an utter disgrace for trying to hide behind some pathetically sham 'science'. I guess their real 'RESEARCH' is merely to count how much silliness they can 'get away with'. Also known as "taking the piss"...

And your point with your example is?

Note: The two Greenpeace activists have been in effect imprisoned, without trial, for over TWO YEARS now. All for the sake of what was documented as a "box of cardboard". The contents were actually a few hundred pounds/dollars worth of prime cuts of whale meat.

In any western measure of justice, the sentence already served is way way OTT. Even more disgracefully, all before any trial. Also, why has such a trivial offence taken over two years to go to court?...

Looks like Sea Shepherd have unleashed a whole new level of 'weaponry' against those ultra-dour Japanese whalers...

Humour.

From the Japanese IC"r" website:

"2010.02.09
調査母船日新丸に異常接近する妨害船ボーブ・バーカー号およびスティーブ・アーウィン号
Cockroach-infested Bob Barker approaches the Nisshin Maru while the Steve Irwin follows"

"2010.02.09
妨害船スティーブ・アーウィン号活動家が大型スピーカーを用いてクラシック音楽を調査母船日新丸に対し流す
Steve Irwin activists use loudspeakers to broadcast classical music near the Nisshin Maru"

And a YouTube vid of the Japanese video + description:

Sea Shepherd Shows The Way Out of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary "The Ride of the Valkyries"

This celebrates the Japanese whalers moving out of the whale sanctuary.

Absolutely hilarious! An 'attack' of Wagner classical music!!

... but is this move only for the Japanese to refuel...?

Still disgusted with the Japanese whalers!

This is the start of where it all is coming down to....
Who has the right to control or dictate who does and who does not have access to the remaining world's resources?

This discussion has been about whales......
Parallels can be drawn to oil, fresh water, mineral resources, tillable land, and many others......

The world's population is rapidly, or maybe has, outstripped the good Earth's ability to replenish and cleanse itself. Of course some resources, like oil, cannot be replenished.

And what about the deforestation taking place in the rain forests.....can we demand that it stop, to help save the planet or the rest of us??

It's a slippery slope, and I am afraid we just may have jumped into the abyss.

Many have said this is where the end of human civilization would start and end.....the fight for resources.

It's goin' by the book.
My last take........

The last whale will survive us......
Whe the Man comes around...... When the Man comes around.

All else will mean little.

Hard for you who do not believe to acknowledge it........

But even Dylan knew it in his youth..... It's a hard rain gonna fall........a hard rain.....

Indeed so.

But also note the problem of pollution. The CO2 that our industries are dumping into the atmosphere will hang around for hundreds of years before nature can recycle it. That may well become even longer if we saturate or kill off all the natural uptake of CO2.

The biggest problem is that of greed between the worlds nations for who can rape the greatest gains first...

The bigger question is what to do about it. As an example, the clash with the Japanese whalers is over what is for most people an utterly trivial issue, and that is concerning the deliberate extinction of a few species of whales!

Martin

Meanwhile, the silliness gets even more silly, with lies, "great anger", and a show of military grade nasty intent from the Japanese:

Japan anger over Sea Shepherd 'attack' on whaling ship

Fisheries Minister Hirotaka Akamatsu said the group threw butyric acid - made from rancid butter - at the ship, mildly injuring three crew members.

But Sea Shepherd said no injuries were reported in the clash.

... Japan said three Japanese crew members suffered mild face and eye injuries from the acid.

Mr Akamatsu said he was glad the whalers had not been seriously hurt in the incident but that he was "filled with great anger" over the incident.

Japanese accidentally cover themselves with pepper spray in whaling war

The crew of a Japanese whaling ship accidentally 'shot themselves in the foot' when they tried to fire pepper spray at protesters - and the wind blew it back in their faces.

The two crew members are seen in dramatic video footage captured by the crew of the Sea Shepherd anti-whaling group rubbing their eyes after a cloud of pepper spray engulfed them.

Captain Paul Watson Demands An Apology From Japan

“If Japanese Fisheries Minister Hirotaka Akamatsu has any sense of honor and dignity he will apologize for the lies that the Institute of Cetacean Research have made in accusing Sea Shepherd of injuring three Japanese whalers on February 11th,” said Paul Watson, the Captain of the Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin.

Japan's Fisheries Minister Hirotaka Akamatsu publicly condemned Sea Shepherd and told reporters on Friday, "I am full of rage. I could not believe they did such a thing."

“Well, Mr. Alamatsu, we did not do such a thing, and we have the documentation to prove that the injuries suffered by the three crewmembers on the Shonan Maru 2 were self inflicted,” said Captain Watson.

So... The Japanese whalers now have military grade high pressure backpacks of pepper to blast at Sea Shepherd... Only to have one blast blow back into their own faces!

Very nasty and very silly.

Looks like the Japanese have no honour whatsoever when it does not suit them to play honourably.

Disgusted!
Martin

[edit]

When I first saw the Japanese backpacks and nozzles, I really did wonder whether they were WWII style flame throwers...
