It would be nice to have it in San Pedro. It was there for several years. I got in trouble once for sailing too close to her. I was about 100 yards away when they started to tell me to turn around. In a not so nice way. I understand now with the terrorist threats, but back in the 70's? Me and my woodend boat would not have even scrached the paint.

Pretty good JM7, But It also applies to the 14" and 15" guns(Possibly as low as 11" or 12" maybe), We didn't use 15"(12" We had though), But the Brits did, Ever hear of the HMS Vanguard? Best gun platform ever built around surplus 15" WWI Equipment(Guns, Turret and Barrettes from 2 large light cruisers of theirs that were converted into Aircraft Carriers, each ship had 2 twin 15" turrets[HMS Courageous & HMS Glorious]), More accurate than even the Iowa class battleships, It's too bad the Montana class was canceled now there was a battleship(Wider[wouldn't fit in the current locks of the Panama Canal as of 01/01/2010], slower[28 vs 33 knots] and better armed than the Iowa class[4-triple 16" turrets instead of 3, same gun type] and who knows maybe the best gun platform ever designed, But We'll never know now). Oh and Japan wasn't the only one with guns bigger than 16", The Brits had one ship with a single 18" gun and yeah Japan had a monitor with 20" guns too that was supposed to be for a battleship, But an Earthquake squashed that and so a limited number of parts were made, Good enough for a Monitor, But not enough for a Battleship, There was an Improved Yamato class, That had 4 triple 18.1" turrets and I expect other improvements on the drawing board too. But I digress.

Give the man a prize.

Those things weighed as much as a VW Bug.

And If the Iowa gets a berth in Los Angeles Harbor in San Pedro, It will be a tourist magnet and right now that sounds pretty good, Oh and I hear Long Beach nearby has no room at the Inn, As they have the Grey Ghost parked there near the cruise ship terminal.

There is room. See the photo below. I left Iowa a little bigger than the proper scale.
