This is getting depressing LOL. I turn in 76 umits and my RAC drops another 200. Down over 1500RAC in the last day and half.

I'm dancing, I'm dancing!

RAC was sitting at about 24k, has dropped off to 22k, and has slowly recovered to about 23.5.

Pending has gone wild. It has shot up from about 80 to almost 95k!

Everything seems to be working at the moment, so RAC should start climbing soon?

regards, Gizbar.

Don't get depressed about pendings........they are proof that your rigs are doing the work..........

It's in the bank. And will come home soomer or later, my friend.

Don't expect to see an immediate increase in RAC with an upgrade.

Remember.....RAC falls like a rock and rises like a feather.....LOL.

Takes at least 4 weeks of steady crunching at a given rate for RAC to rise to it's highest level. And that's if everything else stays stable.

Thats what bothers me...My Pending was 123,000 last week and now it is around 112,000 and I am losing ground. Next week will be better...LOL

yeah my pendings are way up...but i hardly ever pay attention.
i figure i did something wrong then i start monkeying with the computers

Don't to forget..

The stable RAC of my GPU cruncher was ~ 52,000 over months.
Then we got the '07 (or which year?) WUs (IIRC, nearly all 0.39x AR).. and the RAC increased to ~ 58,000 .

Then again an unplanned server outage at Berkeley.. idle GPU cruncher over days.. and then fresh start at ~ 40,000 RAC or whatever it was..

So it's only the mix of AR WUs.

Do you have one of your CPU work units disabled? Should I only use 7 of my 8 cores since I have two video cards? If so why?

As long as nothing is glowing....
Of course this happens right as I roll back my video drivers...
I built a new cheap machine to replace one of my cash registers. Stuck my 9600 in that and it seems great with only a 400 watt PS, only one I had with PCIe cable. Got an Asus P5KPL-AM SE for $47.00 and 2 gigs of cheap memory and had the rest. Tiny MB but after all night under the counter the MB is 37F and CPU 43F I am real impressed. It's RAC is climbing....LOL

i have solved the conundrum. (not really.)

what is the percentage of computers running cuda?
what is the percentage of computers not running cuda?
how many computers are "rebranding the VLAR and VHAR"
workunits?
if you rebrand then you might wait on a wingman crunching
a VLAR/VHAR on cuda
its a classic hurry up and wait scenario.

really all i'm drinking is coffee...
a really good hazelnut coffee tho.

What is the difference between VLAR and HLAR? I have only been rebranding the VLAR. Coffee...sounds good, snowing out here.

Message 954915 - Posted: 15 Dec 2009, 5:31:32 UTC

Being fairly new to the BOINC version of Seti@home there are probably lots of details I do not understand yet.

What I am curious about is in looking at my work units pile I have a few "in progress" which match with the local client (4 running and some small number "ready to start")

Next I have a collection of completed pending validation and of course the validated ones.

What I am curious about is in looking at some of the oldest pending WU's I find that the other computer has many many work units "in progress" I counted over 600 in one example. Since the computer in question was listed as doing one WU per day why do they have so many work units 'in progress'? Should they not have more like 5-10?

I know that credit will eventually be granted to me when the WUs either get turned in or expired and re assigned but looking at several of my pending credit pile all show the same pattern. I get a WU and return it done in a day while the other computer with hundereds of WU's keeps plugging away. What am I missing? Is it related to this thread discussion or should I start a new thread?

Thanks
-Vicki-

All units that have been downloaded by the other host will show as in progress even though they are not working on it yet.

Ok. So why are they downloading so many WUs? Doesn't that slow down the process of testing and validating the WUs? Many other computers turn around WUs in a very short time as mine does. Wouldn't it be better to have those several hundred WU's spread around to machines that have a quick turn rather than all caught up in one machine?

Your computers are hidden so we can't double check anything.

Are you sure that your wingmen are actually still crunching? Check to see when the last WU returned by them was. Maybe they had a large cache and stopped crunching for some reason. In that case you will have to wait until the WU's timeout.

Hi Vicki, A lot of people have a large cache because of the many outages that happen at seti. To some it is only about using a few spare cycles and to others it is about going all out. If seti is the only project you are interested in you may decide you need a bigger cache to get through the outages. A lot of people set seti up and pretty much never look at it again. We have a whole range of people here with a whole range of reasons they run seti. To me it has become a hobby and I want to run as many as fast as I can. Along the way I learn a whole lot about my computers. The faster your machine the more pending units you will have but they all pay in the end. I don't think it really bothers anyone but gives lots to talk about...LOL
