I tried lapping a CPU once........ And saw very little difference. I suppose, as in Fred's case, where a visible departure from a flat surface can be detected, a little careful lapping could improve the situation. But I have not bothered since. I have seen more difference in temps just by removing the heatsink, cleaning the old heatsink compound off, carefully reapplying fresh compound with careful attention to the proper amount, and making sure the heatsink is mounted flat, square, and firmly. Most important is proper application of a good heatsink compound......just enough to fill any air gaps between the CPU and heatsink, and not any extra. My favorite compound right now is MX-2, but have had good results with AS-5 and Ceramique in the past. And make sure the heatsink itself is seated and clamped down properly. I have heard of situations where folks could not figure out why their temps were uncontrollably high, only to find out that the heatsink was hitting something on the mobo that was holding one corner of it up enough to prevent complete contact. Or using the wrong hardware for the socket they were mounting to, etc...... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

After a bit of a wait and I nudge on the telephone, I have finally recieved the PSU (Computer Lounge) and the motherboard/RAM/CPU (iFocus) combo. I have just also ordered the WD Caviar Green HDD 1.5TB for $192.66 (iFocus) and the EVGA GeForce GTX260 SC Dual-DVI (Computer Lounge). From the same companies as above. Here is my current order list: Another long wait ahead. Especially for the HDD since it is back ordered. I will post some pics of the PSU and the combo later tonight. - Luke. - Luke. |

Sounds Good Luke, Me I got the NorthQ socket 939/940/754 water cooling cpu brackets(that fit the Corsair Hydro H50 cpu cooler, Don't ask Corsair 939 is dead to them and NorthQ? Good Luck) that came from Denmark in the mail, And Earlier My DSL internet went out @ the Verizon CO, Supposedly they weren't going to send anybody to fix the problem until Monday as today is Friday and Verizon said they needed 24 hours to schedule someone to go out there, I guess they got a lot of angry calls(Mine too), Cause someone did something as I had an IP address and No Internet, lovely. Luke, you know that there is the EVGA GTX260-216 SC and SSC ? EVGA named his top OC products with: SC, SSC, FTW. Depend of the GPU series the top OC product is: GTS250 series -> SC GTX260-216 series -> SC, SSC GTX275 series -> SC, SSC, FTW |

Here is another question for you folks. I've taken a look at the P6T Deluxe Mobo I have received, and there are 5 connectors (at my count) for fans. 1x PWR Fan. 3x CHA Fan. 1x CPU Fan. I have 5 chassis fans. There is a 120mm intake fan on the side, a 120mm exhaust fan on the rear, a 120mm intake fan on the front, a 80mm exhaust fan on the top, and an optional 80mm area for a fan on the bottom of the case that can be either intake or exhaust (this fan is listed as Case Fan 1 in my product list). The question is, how do I fit all of them into 3 chassis slots? - Luke. |

Here is another question for you folks. I've taken a look at the P6T Deluxe Mobo I have received, and there are 5 connectors (at my count) for fans. Dont know if the Asus P6 series is similar to the P5's but on the P5's there are 5 x CHA connectors (RTFM - where M = Manual) of which only 3 are speed-controllable. The CPU connector should be 4-wire; the PWR connector will, almost certainly NOT be speed-controllable. Obviously the 120mm fan on your Thermalright will go on the CPU connector (I had to get a Nexus 120mm to get the 4-wire connection). Choose the fans that you want to be speed-controlled by the MoBo (or by Speedfan - that is what I use) to go on the CHA connectors. For the extra fans you can get short adaptor cables that will allow you to power fans from a Molex connector (i.e. a spare HD power connector from your PSU). F. |

Thanks for the quick reply Fred. Any recommendations on the adapter cable? For something like that- a lead, is a lead, is a lead. It'd have to be incredibly cheap & crappy to give problems. Grant Darwin NT |

Thanks for the quick reply Fred. Any recommendations on the adapter cable? Just Google Molex fan power and find your nearest supplier. As long as it's not wet string it will do the job. F. |

Here is another question for you folks. I've taken a look at the P6T Deluxe Mobo I have received, and there are 5 connectors (at my count) for fans. A pair of 3 pin Y fan adapters will work If the fans are all 3 pin and not molex. I found a place that sell them too, Right in Your backyard Luke, so to speak. http://www.legionenterprises.co.nz/fans-accessories/cables/cat_54.html The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Only word of warning I would give if trying to use one of the 3 pin Y cables.... I once took out the fan controller on a mobo trying to run a very high output case fan from one of the mobo outputs. Try to verify the rating of the mobo connector and the draw of the fans before trying to run more than one off of one output. Otherwise, run them directly off of the PSU buss with the molex adapters. Of course, you will not have fan speed control or fan monitoring on the fans running directly off of the PSU. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Yeah that's true, Before a certain year(that I don't recall), Most motherboards had fan headers, But wouldn't run any fans worth mentioning, As long as the fan headers ratings aren't exceeded, I don't see a problem, But If a fan does exceed a fan headers rating, then a 3pin to molex adapter would be called for, Look for the Amp rating on the fan and I think the motherboard manual might mention the maximum capacity of the fan headers. You could also go the route of adding a fan controller that supplies power via a molex connection, Example here I have some of these kinds of controllers in a couple of my systems, they work well as long as you stick with a controller that's rated for the power draw of the fan you're connecting. -Dave |

I have finally gotten around to posting pics of the Motherboard, CPU, RAM and Power Supply. Here they are... (hopefully by next weekend I can post pics of the HDD and the GPU!) Thanks for all the opinions about the fans. I like dnolan's idea about the fan controller... I have had a browse on PriceSpy NZ and searched for FC's. And have discovered the Scythe Kaze Master Fan Controller. It can control 4 fans. That is the amount of pre-installed case fans in the NZXT Lexa Blackline. I am happy to let "Case Fan 1" in my product list run from one of the Chassis fan motherboard connectors. However, this itself has brought up 2 more questions. I cannot find anywhere on the website that says the FC uses 3 pin or 4 pin connectors. If anybody can find out this it would be deeply appreciated. My NZXT Lexa fans use (from what I gather) 4-pin connectors. If the FC and the NZXT Lexa use different pin cables, can I just buy 4 3 to 4 pin adapters? - Luke. - Luke. |

My NZXT Lexa fans use (from what I gather) 4-pin connectors. Luke, From looking at the pictures and a review on Overclock.net, the connectors are three pin. Link to the review - look at the last post on page 2 and the first on page 3... addresses your question specifically. -Dave [edit] Also, a few posts down on page three, says "Well just picked one of these up on sale. Looks like the 4 pin to 3 pin adapter is included. Woooohoooo" |

Fantasic pics! Before you start unpacking tho, ever point a static meter at that table cloth ?? :-) Sure, it's low wattage, but ridiculously high voltage. |
