I have a p6t when you oc if something is not right it will just come and say overclock failed and go back to defaults. You can save profiles and it is very easy to oc on I have a i920 running at 3.4gz now with 2 gtx 260. |

If the bios is anything like that of all the Asus mobos I have run of late..... You don't even have to use the profiles to save your butt...... A crash, and a power up/down cycle brings you back to the default settings, where you have a chance to make right whatever OCing demons brought you down..... Asus rules, dudes. If the bios is anything like that of all the Asus mobos I have run of late..... Asus rocks my world....... I understand that some cannot afford the finest......but I believe they are. The R2E is simply the most rock solid mobo I have ever run. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

If the bios is anything like that of all the Asus mobos I have run of late..... If I could afford the Rampage II, I would buy it Mark. It is simply out of my price range. I may order the Power Supply (Corsair HX750) tonight. Keeping in mind I don't want to reach my credit limit. Mark, what PSU do you use? - Luke. |

If the bios is anything like that of all the Asus mobos I have run of late..... All of my old rigs are running the same 550w Cooler Master that I fell in love with way back..... Bought a half dozen of them at the time. But since then, I have learned much. The one and only PSU I shall ever buy again is the PC Power and Cooling Silencer series. Single 12v rail.......you can plug anything into any connector, and they all have access to the full bus power. My top 2 rigs are sporting 910 watt units......and I have a couple of them that have been upgraded to 750's when the old 550's failed. The increase in efficiency alone will pay for them in a number of months. And aside from the fallacy that somebody else posted, PSU's are NOT most efficient when loaded to the gills. I think the last graph I saw showed max efficiency at around 70-80 percent of rated load. They are premium priced PSU's to be sure........ But worth every dime. If you can't afford it.....so be it..... I shall not call you down. But you asked....... (And I don't own stock in PC Power and Cooling.....LOL). "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." If the bios is anything like that of all the Asus mobos I have run of late..... Me neither, But then I've never seen a Rampaging Asus either. ;) Seriously, The P5K Deluxes still do pretty good for a P35 chipset and yeah their not bleeding edge stuff, But they do the job perfectly. As to PCP&C or OCZ, I have an OCZ 900w(4-20A 12v rails), A Corsair 850w TX(70A 12v rail), and an Enermax "HULK" 1050w psu(4-30A 12v rails & crappy molex cables). My next psu will be a Corsair 950w TX(cost reasons for Me, zip ties work wonders on extra cables). The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I have just ordered the PSU for NZ$305.00 (no stupid 3% non-cash surcharge & free shipping!) from Computer Lounge NZ. A good reputable company. Unlike others in this country. PSU is a Corsair HX750 Modular (62A 12v rail) rated at 80+ Gold certification (optimal) and 80+ Silver certification (true). As far as I know, this is the only PSU that has been awarded gold. Will be looking forward to receive the Asus P6T Deluxe/Core i7 920/Corsair XMS3 6GB and the above PSU in the next few days! Then perhaps it is on to ordering the heatsink and fan for the CPU. I have now got all the expensive components out of the way (excluding graphics card) Hopefully this PSU may be a bit more future proofed than 650W! And not only will the efficiency pay off the extra cost, with a warranty of 7 years, it should be a pretty solid companion. - Luke. |

I suppose it is time I posted an update for this thread (it's nearly 4PM Sunday 29th). Should be receiving the PSU and combo in the next few days. The case and monitors both arrived on Wednesday last week, so I'd think the 2 items I am ordering now should be delivered around Wednesday as well. First thing of note is that I am ditching Case Fan 1. A fan (to be specific, the front 120mm intake) I thought wasn't included in the case actually is (it was listed as optional). So this should save me a few bucks. I have also found a cheaper price on the Thermalright U120E HS at the online store Ascent NZ. Ascent offers free shipping and the product is roughly NZ$13 cheaper. In the opposite direction, I am looking to ramp up the HDD to a Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB (from 1TB) from either iFocus or PC Pacific. Also I am figuring to buy the EVGA GeForce GTX260 Core 216 Superclocked Dual-DVI 896MB editon for NZ$359. Here's an image... Plus I am still deciding on what to order next weekend. Any help here folks? Graphics Card & HDD...? HS & CPU Fan...? Or a combination of these perhaps? Mark said: My top 2 rigs are sporting 910 watt units......and I have a couple of them that have been upgraded to 750's when the old 550's failed. I've heard it works like this too. Good efficiency at low loads, best efficiency at medium/hard loads, then reasonable efficiency at full load. Not that I'm gonna' choke out the PSU with a full 750W of draw. - Luke. |

In the opposite direction, I am looking to ramp up the HDD to a Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB (from 1TB). I'm not that impressed with the "green" drive specifications. According to WD's site, a 1TB "Caviar Green" runs about 5 watts, and the "Caviar Black" is more like 9 (in very round numbers). 4 watts isn't very much. I don't like the idea behind the WD drives that change speed based on data rate, that seems like extra complexity, again for not much gain. |

Also I am figuring to buy the EVGA GeForce GTX260 Core 216 Superclocked Dual-DVI 896MB editon for NZ$359. The GTX260-216 is a great card. However, soonish (no-one seems sure when) nVidia is going to release the GT300 (Fermi) series. I suspect that you will be able to get a GT300 card for the same price as the GTX260, but with x2 performance. I bought myself a GT240 while I wait and see what the GT300 series will bring. A bit of a waste of money, but I couldn't wait that long before powering the system up... I could have gone with a G210 for half the cost though. |

Also I am figuring to buy the EVGA GeForce GTX260 Core 216 Superclocked Dual-DVI 896MB editon for NZ$359. Can I crunch S@H with 1x GTX260 and 1x GTX3xx in the same computer? Or do the cards have to have the same specifications? I might install a GTX3xx card if possible when they are available. Then again, that is all pivotal on me having the money. It would be nice though to crunch with a Fermi. - Luke. |

Yes you can mix them. You need to have the cc_config entry <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> for it to work for different types of cards. Its usually better to try and keep them the same. I have one rig with dual GTX260's (not OC'ed - they run hot anyway). I have 2 rigs with GTX295's, which is a simpler way of getting basically a dual GTX260 setup, but on a single card and for less power. I have one rig with a GTX275 (one of GTX295's was a dud) and another one with an ATI HD4850, although not much can use it for crunching at the moment. As for the Fermi you might have a long wait and they will be expensive when they 1st come out, but expect the price to drop as volume picks up. BOINC blog |

120mm 3000rpm fan? I hope you're not planning on sleeping in the same *house*. :) Also, if those are the speakers you are going to use, you might as well use the integrated sound card. |

I'll look at adding a Fermi once the price has dropped in perhaps Q2-Q3 2010. For now I'll stick with my GTX260. Ramuh said: 120mm 3000rpm fan? I hope you're not planning on sleeping in the same *house*. :) LOL. It's the best fan out there. 133CFM is a heck of a lot of power for a CPU fan. It should keep it the temperature just below molten. Good point about the sound card. I have my laptop and my iPhone here anyway, and usually when I am listing to music it is through earphones. By eliminating this product, I can save a bit of cash for something else. Here is my current build specifications. Some things have changed... - Luke. |

If He thinks 133cfm is loud, Then He hasn't heard a 220cfm fan(120mm), My cpu uses a 150cfm fan, Is It loud? Not to Me. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Their both Delta fans, My other quad PC has a 148cfm Delta fan in It on the cpu. Sometimes You'll see them on ebay as a Dell part. Oh and I tried the 220cfm fan and found that even though It moved more air, It didn't cool all that much better than the 148 or 150cfm fans.
