Yup.....
Looks like traffic pretty much dropped off about midnight Berkeley time.

At the stroke of midnight, it became Thanksgiving day......and the Seti servers turned into turkeys....LOL.

Hope you all have a fine holiday.
Fellow crunchers and Seti staff alike.

From Tech Board.....

Oh well, we tried. We thought we would just have to put some extra minutes monitoring the data pipeline over the weekend (after wasting a lot of time bringing up many broken files), which wouldn't have been too bad, but...

Then bambi crashed last night - it's our secondary science database server but also manage a lot of the data pipeline stuff. I happened to be free so I drove up to the lab around 10:30pm and rebooted it. After that, the pipeline zipped right along.

That is... until 11pm when the router up and died. Or something along the entire Hurricane Electric network path died. We have no idea. Jeff and I fought with it (both remotely) this morning, but we're throwing up our hands at this point and going on holiday.

Might as well have everything fail at once, and at the start of a long holiday weekend. Why not?

First page tell us that there is a router problem so they do not know when it will be fixed so no-one can upload or download until it is.

Fortunately, Milky Way just got back on line, so I can crunch those until SETI gets sorted out. Meanwhile, all you Yanks enjoy your long weekend.

Hello, I was wondering if someone could answer some questions for me? I am new on here (about a month) and right now I am getting an error message that says "no tasks running" Did I do something wrong? Also I've noticed that I have some credits, what are these for and do I do anything with them?

Thanks in advance

Jim,
Welcome to the forums!

You can read a bit about credit here - Basically, it's just a comparative measure on what you've done so far.
If you have no tasks running, it could be because you've finished all the tasks you have. Right now, there is a problem at the server end of things that's keeping anyone from getting any new work, so if you've finished what you have, you can either attach to another project for the time being, or just relax and wait until things get set right.

Did somebody kick something? I just had my WUs upload. Still can't report or get new work but at least it's something. Maybe the cleanup crew came back and plugged the router back in. :-)

EDIT: Now I even got a few new units...Can tell it is clogged.

The connectivity problem noted yesterday turned out to be one of our switches and not the router. We swapped in a replacement switch today and connectivity was restored.

THANKS to whoever went in and got us going again.

Hmm.. new switch in Berkeley?
Maybe it's time for to make a reboot of the PC, because Berkeley have a 'new' DL IP ?
Or not?

Be patient guys, after this outage everyone is trying to hit the servers at the same time. Work is going out as fast as it can. Now, if everyone would just shut off their computers for about 10 minutes I can get my quota downloaded and you can all go back to fighting over what's left! :-)

I still can't download anything,

There was effectively a 3 day outage. If there are no other glitches or problems, it'll take at least 12 hours to fully recover.

Glad that the servers are coming back to life, however here in Redditch in the U.K. my 50mb service is down.
Some contractor has gone through a fibre optic cable.
My service will be resumed in 24 hours I have been told.
I have had to resort to my 3G mobile dongle on my Netbook.
I have crunched through all my Cuda tasks on the 2 main rigs
and have abot 400 cpu tasks on the i7,6 days worth.
My AMD rig has nearly 1200 tasks, a months worth.
Tasks on both rigs are VLAR's.I have about 1000 wu's to upload and report.
So I am good till things get sorted.

This is fairly easy
[error] File xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx has wrong size: expected xxxxxx, got 0
There was a TCP Time while your machine was waiting for the information about the size of download file. Becuase if failed to recived the information Boinc "assumed" the file size was Zero. Network connection overload

Temporarily failed download of xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx: connect() failed
There are no Sockets to connect to (or your ACK was not acknowledged in time), See Network connection overload.

Or.....

I had 39 WU's stuck in download for a couple of hours giving a mixture of these reports even though the network traffic seemed to be dropping off. A restart of BM caused them all to download immediately without any problem.
