Frozen CPU is right down the road from me...may have go pay a visit one of these days :) Cool, The part I showed isn't one they carry, It would be nice of course, It's that or a new motherboard, cpu and ram eventually, In addition to an H50 cooler, for the immediate future pc3 is off as It's not too useful in the present state that It's in, If I use It as a cruncher It overheats as the cpu has a stock AMD heatsink and the gpus in the GTX295 don't get enough air I think due to the HP case, One of these days I'll have to see about adding one or two 140mm fan holes in the door for better ventilation with a hole saw(once I have a good enough drill). Better air cooling with this motherboard and case isn't exactly something that's possible as the headroom where the cpu is at is very limited as there is a couple of loaded drive bays over the cpu. How's the GPU upgrade coming along KB? Have you decided what card you're using? I'm not sure if they still sell them over where you live, and it wouldn't deliver the best RAC compared to a GPU, but you could upgrade the CPU to, say, a Q9450 from your Q6600, sell the Q6600 off for a bit of cash, and it also saves you upgrading your power supply (if your going to buy a GTX card). And you don't need anything extra! No fiddling around with pesky .dlls and drivers. My upcoming NZXT Lexa build is using the Asus GeForce GTX260 Core 216 GPU, gonna' cost me roughly NZ$314.00. In NZ you can't seem to get any GTX card for less than NZ$280. And even then, you can still only buy a standard 260 at a price like that. 280's & 295's are way out of my range (NZ$600+). - Luke. - Luke. |

How's the GPU upgrade coming along KB? Have you decided what card you're using? Luke......the CPU is not much of a factor here........ An old whatever CPU will feed the GPU 'bout as good as anything........ So, give the Qbaby a 295, and she will run like stink. My 920 rig has a RAC of just over 36K......and the Qbaby could do almost as well, given the right parameters.......... And I still luv crazy goth chickys..........she just doesn't know it yet. Or she has already read this, and has her hitmen on the way.... Can you forgive me, keeper of the Q? "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

How's the GPU upgrade coming along KB? Have you decided what card you're using? Mark, what I am saying is basically to screw the GPU and just upgrade the CPU, so you wouldn't have to update power supplies etc. - Luke. - Luke. |

How's the GPU upgrade coming along KB? Have you decided what card you're using? Only If one can keep the cpu and the 295 cool enough, pc3 needs water cooling and so far Masscool is It's only choice for the 939 cpu, As I can't get the NorthQ NQ-1366 939 cpu bracket I need for a Corsair H50 to work in pc3, plus moding the case for the rear(120mm fan out of a 92mm opening) and the door for a 140mm fan or two, plus a DEMCiflex 120mm & a 140mm Magnetic Fan Dust Filter or two. ...what I am saying is basically to screw the GPU and just upgrade the CPU, so you wouldn't have to update power supplies etc. The 600 watt OCZ supply she has ought to be adequate to run a GPU. Not necessarily the absolutely top end, but enough for a very healthy increase in productivity. Joe |

...what I am saying is basically to screw the GPU and just upgrade the CPU, so you wouldn't have to update power supplies etc. The Frozen Nehi hits top marks at around 620 watts, as measured by the killawatt..... So, the Qbaby should be able to get by on a 600w PSU, assuming less OC on the CPU and if she does not quite push the envelope as far as I do on the Cuda. ...what I am saying is basically to screw the GPU and just upgrade the CPU, so you wouldn't have to update power supplies etc. Me I have an 850w Corsair in pc3(an AMD HP media center m7470n PC: ms-7184 3.47 Bios motherboard), part of the problem is possibly the case(sucks heatwise) and the chipset is an ATi RS480 chipset and an ATi video card that can't be disabled(If I could flash the danged Bios that might be solved with an MSI motherboard Bios(ms-7093 3.9 Bios)). Flashing the bios so far seems to be limited to an internal fdd(nothing else seems to work or be recognized), which I have, But I'd need to find the proper fdd power connector as It's tucked away a bit. Oh and the 850w psu? It was what I could get and for about $90 It does pretty good, Sure It's used, But It does fit the bill nicely and more importantly the case too. I got a couple of PC Power and Cooling 910 watt Silencers in my top two rigs.......but I could get by on less, judging by the killawatt readings...... About 620 watts tops for the 965 Nehi...(without the freezer)....and about 520 watts for the 920 rig...... But you gotta have some headroom. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Yeah, Headroom, very important, Not so much for a non overclockable PC though. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I got a couple of PC Power and Cooling 910 watt Silencers in my top two rigs.......but I could get by on less, judging by the killawatt readings...... pc3 was made by HP(Hewlett Packard), It has no overclocking ability at all and It's a m-atx form factor ms-7184 motherboard(ATi chipset/video card), It's the cheaper version of the MSI ms-7093, but changing the Bios from HP 3.47 to MSI 3.90 are at an impasse as is the cooling, I've found another place in the UK that sells the NorthQ NQ-3580(Here It's the Corsair H50, Corsair doesn't make/sell a 939 cpu bracket for the H50). I'd still need to mod the case some for two or three fans as airflow stinks in that HP case. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I have been busy in the real world. Sorry. Anyway, I am going to start pricing units this weekend and post some of my finds the first of the week and hope for some opinions. I am fairly sure that the PSU I have should be adequate: I don’t have many add-ons sucking power, just the CPU, memory, HDD and a few assorted fans. She doesn’t even have an optical drive: I pull the one out of my desktop when I assembled her and haven’t needed it since. @Luke: I could never get rid of my Q6600. Too much blood, sweat and tears invested. (Literally blood, considering my skinned knuckles.) @ Mark: I love crazy cat guys too. ;) @ Wonder Puppy: no, you don’t have to be crazy to be goth. But it does help. :~ Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. Albert Einstein |
