I'll probably miss it. It seems like a space odessey "Terminator" style movie Teminator in reverse. Think about it. In the terminator series the Machines mimic human. In this movie the humans mimic the aliens. Clearly the aliens are the "innocent" Much like the people of LA that Arnold destroyed in Terminator. Curious how everyone here feels about Avatar. On one hand it is clearly a huge CGI spectacle but the story feels like one I have read and seen many times. I'm definitely gonna pass on it. I hate CGI in movies. I think the last movie I saw at the show was Out of Africa. No wait, it was Unforgiven. |

Well I saw it in 2d and now I want to see it in 3d. It's several hours drive to a theather with 3d so I might not be able to catch it. If I can get some one to watch the kids I will try to go with my wife. It is visually stunning. A treat for the eyes. The story was good too. The movie did well to take the Gaia theroy to a logical extension. I did like it. Still waiting for the othr Avatar, the last air bender to be released on dvd. |

Finally got to see it, after scheduling problems resulting from colds and bad weather. Very good 3D effects, OK sort of story. Apparently the environment is good, people who don't understand that are bad. And not just ordinary bad - really bad, with scars and big guns. Really educational. Still, worth it just for the effects. |

I have a natural issue with my right eye musle. I can´t watch in 3D with glasses. But will enjoy in 2D anyway. James Cameron is a great director. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

Went to see it yesterday (waited for the holiday zoo to end) at a 9:45am show. Not many people so I could set in an ideal seat and didn't get crowded. 3D-IMAX and it was a visual tour de force. While the story didn't blow me away it was pretty good, albeit a bit predictable. The 3D was not overwhelming with crap flying out of the screen but gave you a real feeling of being part of the story. I think that made it much more enjoyable from my standpoint. It was also not "over-cut" (lots of rapid scene changes) so scenes developed well and you could appreciate the art of the work. Overall, I enjoyed it and will likely go see it at least one more time. |

Well I finally got to see it in 3d. Having seen it in 2d first I had a few surprises. First of all about 90% of the movie did not benefit from 3d. What I mean from that is that the 2d version was so visually stimulating that the 3d was pretty much ignored by my senses. Second is that there seemed to be footage added to the 3d version. Not sure if they actually did, but in a few places I saw things in the 3d version that I missed in the 2d. Overall the 3d was very well done. But if you cannot see a 3d version the 2d is more than sufficient to give you the full impact of the film. |

Saw Avatar (2D) excellent movie! The CGI is first rate as well as the story line. I drive transport truck, so i listen to lots of different radio stations, i was listening to one station in the USA about Avatar and they were saying that the guy who made the movie ( i forgot how it was worded exactly ) that in order to explane the world of Avatar, there will have to be more then one movie. Im not saying that there will be more, but hopefully there will be :D |

The wife and I saw it this afternoon.Great movie, though at times i got the feeling that the visual effects overpowerd the story. But I have to say the visuals were awesome. Now the story plot has been done, If you have seen Dances with wolves. The last Samuri youll know what this movie is about. Thats not a knock on the movie ,hell there are only so many plots to go aorund. I did notice the similarity with the American Indian beliefs But i didnt think of Gaia, but that makes sense. I thought of the novel solaris and the Russian movie of the same name. Plus a short story in my collection about a planet with interconnected planet wide trees that are self aware that i cant remember the name of. All in all a very good movie and im glad I saw it on the big screen. I will buy the dvd when it comes out. [/quote] Old James |

Saw Avatar (2D) excellent movie! The CGI is first rate as well as the story line. Considering how much "moola" the movie is making, Oh yeah this should make Yer jaw hit the floor(KLANG)... scifiwire wrote: Globally, Avatar's total is now an estimated $1.6 billion, second only to Cameron's Titanic ($1.8 billion). Seen the 2D and was impressed that it appears to have done 3D correctly. Correctly means nothing thrown out of the screen into the audience against a flat background. This is the way 3D should be done. It should be done the same as the transition from B&W to color, that is, nothing special. Just imagining the 3D when depth is important things open up behind or below the action. It does not appear to be forcing the 3D onto the audience as have most all the previous. That said, the premise is LAME in the SF sense. Unobtainium? Whatever magic stuff it is their target for their efforts has the richest deposits of it within "two hundred klicks" I think the statement is. It is very, very lame to suggest the magic stuff is worth enough to justify this huge investment in travel and manpower to get it but there is also a massive effort to get to know this particular tribe instead of moving 200 klicks away and getting it without hassle. Is this really the best he could do to frame a forced confrontation? And then it is some kind of environmental problem that is motivating it all. Let me get this straight. There is an energy source to travel a large number of lightyears and to have explored enough planets/moons to have found just this one place with the magic cure and whatever this massive effort is cannot solve the environmental problem. Lets not get me started on the mystical DNA they are talking about nor the economics where human legs are unaffordable but entire bodies of mixed DNA aliens are an affordable alternative to moving the base 200 klicks to get the stuff without hassle. But I can enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean and Little Shop of Horrors and because of that ability I was able to enjoy this movie. I just wish he had not included the lame ass set up for the conflict and just let it happen without the Gospel (and the science) according to Al Gore as the premise.
