Recently rebuilt my system with Windows 7 and installed the latest BOINC client. It's set up to use the BOINC service with restricted accounts and tasks all seem to be running. No real issues. However, the only way I can get the tasks to obey my preferences to pause "computation/network activity" on user activity is to have the BOINC manager loaded and then for only a brief amount of time before they resume any way using all the available CPU - the moment I then re-run the manager the tasks all get suspended. Why is this happening now? It never used to as I never had the BOINC manager running ever. |

Make sure that boinctray.exe is running. This is the idle detection program that checks for keyboard taps and mouse movements. (Not as the name may imply to show an icon in the system tray). If boinctray.exe isn't running, you can start it from the BOINC directory. It won't give any confirmation that it's starting up or running, you'll have to check that through Windows Task Manager. |

Ah, it wasn't. Re-ran the installer and used the repair option. It seems to have registered them now for start-up so hopefully that will sort it, Thanks. |

OK, just so you know, the program is started from the registry only (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run). It won't stop if you exit BOINC. Yet if you 'clean up' through Task Manager to remove any remnants of Boinc still running (some people do that) and then restart Boinc later on, it won't restart either. It only starts at a boot-up, or if you start it manually. |
