Winning between doing all the weekend household chores that Eric can't do with a sore back. Fortunately for him, watching the Badger's game does not bother his back at all! Grumble, grumble, grumble...
But sitting in a car and sitting at a dinner table did bother his back?
Fortunately, I wouldn't know about that.

Hi SuperJoker... :-)
Hi Magenta, Today I have a matching pair of arms, Both are sore, the next few days for Me are going to be interesting to say the least. :D
My wireless setup rocks now, As I was able to download two copies of Boinc 6.10.18, One in 32bit and one in 64bit, both at the same time too, No more ethernet cables for Me, their too slow. :D The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's

The current best ethernet cables will always be faster than the current best wireless. It is, however, easier to upgrade the wireless as it does not involve pulling new wires.
Current best wired is, I believe, 1Gb/Sec. Current best wireless is, I beleive, 200Mb/Sec under ideal circumstances, and circumstances are almost NEVER ideal.

I agree that wires are faster, and if I have to move a large amount of data, I cable up. However, my room mate is not real careful with wires so she uses an old laptop with a newly installed wireless card (internal) and a new battery good for 5 to 6 hours of use at a time. This way I only have to worry about it getting dropped, but at a resale value of under $200, it's not a big loss. My main system is a tower so wires don't matter on it and also it's my wireless base station. I use my other laptop mostly in wireless mode around the house unless I am moving that large amount of data (around 30 GB of backup) I talked about.

On ethernet I never saw more than a 100Mbps connection with any of My cat5 cables, The connection I have now is through a mimo router w/7 internal antennas and is a solid 5 bar 108Mbps connection now(sure the distance isn't all that far, yet, But what do I care? I don't have a laptop, yet, maybe one day), even if 108 or Super G isn't a standard like "N" is, Besides It cost Me very little to get($52.38 total for a router and two wpn311 108 pci adapters, I have a D-Link DWL-G132(usb) that does 108 with the current router too). Cat 5e with the correct switches, and NICs, etc, will give 1Gb/sec. I have this at work (and I have 100Mb/sec at home as I do not want to shell out for the more expensive 1Gb equipment.

The tower is the only thing that can go 1GB and everything else is limited to 100Mbps. However, my wireless is "G" level but produces a very good connection at 56Mbps. The bottle neck is the DSL line. The down side is about 1.2Mbps and the up side is 128Kbps.
I take my laptop on the road and that's when being able to pull in a weak signal is important. I have been able to work at distances of around a 1000 feet and that's way out there for WiFi. I will admit that the signal was not very strong, but what do you need to check your e-mail, look at a few news items and check on a few things for work. I wasn't doing any heavy downloading.
As for having a laptop, they are somewhat overrated. I have one because my vacations are not free of work and the laptop is one of my disk backup systems along with an attached hard drive and burning CD/DVDs. When I am gone from home, having the limited power of a laptop is better than nothing, but not as good as having the full power cruncher at home. I suggest you consider your needs very carefully before you spend your money on a laptop.

Yep, the limit on my internet is the DSL line (6Mb down and 1.5Mb up), which is why I am not very interested in 1Gb/s equipment. I have a laptop because my job requires it sometimes.

For 1 month I had 6M down and 768K up(1.5M up would have made It work, But Verizon is too cheap or something), But I went back to 3M down and 768K up as I didn't see that much of a speed increase for the money I was about to shell out, Later on I was told I couldn't have gotten 6M down and 768K up at all, Their nuts, Now I limited My service to 1M down and 384K up for cost reasons on My part, It works for Me and is better than 768K down and 384K up and that speed would cost Me the same as what I have now, So the lowest speed was rather pointless. And we are spoiled rotten. I remember when best available through POTS was 300b/s (and one time I was stuck with 72b/s for one connection) - yes, I mean bits per second, NOT Kb or Mb / s.
Is it time for a win?

Not quite THAT old.
I was thinking more along the lines of the Hayes 300baud modem.
