Message 933900 - Posted: 17 Sep 2009, 1:33:48 UTC

I tried using Installer 0.2 on my Vista 64 dual quadcore AMD system with a GTS 250 card. Everything seems to install OK, but I get the following in my startup messages:

9/16/2009 9:16:55 PM SETI@home Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform
9/16/2009 9:16:55 PM [error] App version uses nonexistent coprocessor CUDA
.....
9/16/2009 9:16:55 PM file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_VLARKill_FPLim2048.exe not found
9/16/2009 9:16:55 PM file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/cudart.dll not found
9/16/2009 9:16:55 PM file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/cufft.dll not found
9/16/2009 9:16:55 PM file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll not found

If I copy the missing files into the directory, they seem to get erased. The app_info.xml seems OK.
FYI: I installed it OK on an XP 64 system...

Any ideas what I am screwing up? Thanks!

Do you have the latest drivers installed for your video card? And did you install in "Protected Mode" (service installation) or normal startup?

Drivers are 190.38; normal startup (I think; I just let it install in its default mode).

BTW, the XP 64 installation is 6.6.20 and the Vista 64 is 6.6.36, if that makes any difference.

9/16/2009 9:16:55 PM [error] App version uses nonexistent coprocessor CUDA

As long as you don't get BOINC to recognise the GPU under vista, that file will be deleted at startup of BOINC.

There's no GPU shown in "Computers belonging to jravin" for the vista machine.

Gundolf

OK, then, how do I do that?

It shows up in Device Mgr; why doesn't BOINC see it????

Might be a good idea to re-start BOINC and post the start-up message sequence here for proof-reading.

The second line ("configured to not use co-processors") is odd, is it not? Where is it supposed to be "configured"?
This is my cc_config.xml file:

<cc_config>
<options>
<no_gpus>1</no_gpus>
<save_stats_days>365</save_stats_days>
</options>
</cc_config>

It says to use gpus, doesn't it?

No, that says no gpus - and I don't think it's an abbreviatiuon for "number of gpus"!

Take it out (or set the number to 0 (zero) - logical 'off') and see what happens. Best set 'no new tasks', re-start BOINC, check the log: if CUDA is found, then check that all the apps and DLLs are present in the project directory. Once everything is present and correct, allow new tasks and see what happens.

Richard:

That did it, along with (re)copying the executable and DLLs to the appropriate directory. (Normally, "no_cpus" would mean number of cpus, at least, that's what I thought. My bad...)

It works fine, now.

Many thanks!

That's <ncpus>.

In BOINC the no in <no_alt_platform>0|1</no_alt_platform>, <no_gpus>0|1</no_gpus> and <no_priority_change>0</no_priority_change> means No, the opposite of Yes.

It isn't the Latin Numero, a form of numerus for number. The correct sign for numero is "â„–" or "No.", including that dot.
