Hello, I installed BOINC for Solaris 10 from http://www.dotsch.de/boinc/BOINC%20Clients.html I'm running on OpenSolaris B122 I followed the installation guide: 3. Register your Account for seti@home - The standard registration (attachment) mechanism within the boinc client ( ./boinc_client -attach_project setiweb.berkeley.edu $ACCOUNT_KEY) After the registratioon has finished, stop the BOINC client and start it again with : "./boinc_client -update_prefs http://setiathome.berkeley.edu" or ./boinc_cmd -project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu update" - Or, alternative this workaround helps to attach to a project : Change $ACCOUNT_KEY in the file /opt/boinc/account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml in the key you get from email from the seti@home project. Edit line 3, and do not set any blanks before or after the key. <account> <master_url>http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/</master_url> <authenticator>$ACCOUNT_KEY</authenticator> <project_name>SETI@home</project_name> <host_venue>home</host_venue> <project_preferences> </project_preferences> </account> then I run ./boinc_client but I got just this: ./boinc_client 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Starting BOINC client version 6.2.19 for i386-pc-solaris 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.7d zlib/1.2.3 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Data directory: /export/home/tester/Desktop/opt/boinc 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Processor: 1 i86pc amd64 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Processor features: 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] OS: SunOS: 5.11 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Memory: 2.00 GB physical, 1023.00 MB virtual 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Disk: 26.95 GB total, 26.52 GB free 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Local time is UTC +1 hours 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [http://setiathome.berkely.edu/] URL: http://setiathome.berkely.edu/; Computer ID: not assigned yet; location: (none); project prefs: default 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1023.72MB 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 1842.69MB 09-Sep-2009 13:46:11 [---] Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB What does it mean? It should requests for some work to do, right? But it hangs here and if I leave it for one day, nothing happens. Thank you for help. |

Seti doesn't have its own application for your operating system, so you will have to tell BOINC to use one. You do that with one of the anonymous platform Seti@Home application files. (scroll down, use the correct one for your OS, open it up and read its install.seti file for more information). |

The attachment is OK, but it looks like the SETI application is not installed or installed right. The BOINC client did not find the app_info.xml and so does not use the seperate SETI application... The file app_info.xml and setiathome-5... must been installed in your case in /export/home/tester/Desktop/opt/boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu. |

No, the BOINC client does not do any computing. It would be done by the science application (setiathome-5...), which should use nearly about 100% CPU per core in top or psrstat. The installation is not completed. You need a update and a restart of the BOINC client. Please stop the BOINC client again, and start it again with "./boinc_client --update_prefs http://setiathome.berkeley.edu" |

Obviously you did something right, since your host now has a Computer ID and shows up in your account. Doesn't the manager work for you? If not, try the commandline interface ./boinccmd --help Gruß, Gundolf [edit]That's the windows filename, perhaps it's boinc_cmd for you.[/edit] Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. I repeated all processes once again. 1. Install BOINC client 2. Attach to the project 3. Copy Seti app into boinc/project/ 4. Run update pref 5. What about boinccmd? Did you try one of the following options? Don't copy the entire output here, please :-) C:\Programme\BOINC>boinccmd --help usage: boinc_cmd [--host hostname] [--passwd passwd] command some commands: --get_state show entire state --get_results show results --get_simple_gui_info show status of projects and active results --get_file_transfers show file transfers --get_project_status show status of all attached projects --get_disk_usage show disk usage --get_host_info --version, -V show core client version |

Now I'm testing boinc client and seti project with older version: SETI@home 5.28, BOINC Client 5.10.45 and it works! on SunBlade 2500 on OpenSolaris build 122 So I guess, BOINC Client 6.2.19 is buggy for Solaris. Thank you for help! |

After better investigation, I must say that just SPARC machines works. I tried 3 x86 machines and none of them got task. Maybe this is a reason: [SETI@home] Message from server: platform 'i386-pc-solaris' not found |

Now I'm testing boinc client and seti project with older version: It's a well known problem with the BOINC client on Solaris. If the client would be started with the option "--no_gui_rpc" it would work. I have not found and solution for this problem. |

Other thing is that Boinc client version 6 for Solaris Sparc will faill on processor's tests - on Ultra Sparc 45 Older version works fine. |
