Congrats to all milestones! [EDIT: <- Credit: 12,451,608 <- RAC: 71,505] I reached RAC > 70,000 ! Woohoo! :-) Thanks nVIDIA, CUDA, opt._CUDA_6.08_V12_app, Raistmer, opt. crew.. and so on! ;-) 5x OCed GTX260-216 do the trick! ;-D I'm curious how high the RAC will be after he's stabilized. OTOH.. But what a pain.. electricity bill.. :-( |

This morning as I looked my mear crunchers passed 5 million Seti (no Seti Beta). I was surprised that during Seti classic I surpassed 47+ years at an average of 5+ hours per WU (over half a million computer hours) for a mear 83000+ coblestones. So the wifes machine, my machine, my home computer lab and childrens machines with work machines has accomplished a lot of work over the years for now many projects (looking back, it was a large pain to switch monitor, keyboard and mouse from machine to machine to get done for what was needed to be done). Technology now renders all that work close to useless. A single GPU card does more work in less time (days versus years). This thread has turned into Bragging about I have more money to build supercrunchers not about accomplishments. Or a User reaching a goal that you almost never though you would reach. Then after having spending Multiple Thousands of Dollars for computer hardware some users can not cough up a measly $20 for Seti to keep the doors open. We will leave that there. Over the years I look at posts by Luke, John and Others about their accomplishments and I Smile. They reached a Goal! There is nothing artificial. Those are the people that make Seti and Boinc Projects work. Using what you have to do the most for what you believe in. Pappa Tips his Hat for all Your Hard Work! Thanks Pappa, I just try and do my bit. It has become a bragging war, which I don't like. And by earning more credits, you are inflating the credit system. If you can afford thousands of dollars of machines, you should be able to at least afford 10 dollars. Look at the top 500 participants. I count 44 stars. That's absolutely pathetic. As well as low. These people have no excuse not to donate. I have a donation coming so I can restore myself to star status once again! Regards, Luke. - Luke. |

It has been a long day and this is an old tough issue. Way back when, when this thread started there were many things (BOINC, Seti Issues and many more) that made getting to a Milestone Important. It was Users Helping Other Users... In some respects those that are in the top 500, money aside have had questions answered and crawled over the tops of everyone elses back. The question then becomes what have YOU returned to the project? I have seen most of the "standard" objections and know that a silient majority learn and move ahead as they can. I also understand that some users quit because they can not compete. My old computer has been running faithfully for 4+ years and it does what it needs to do... They do not have all that money to spend. Keeping food on the table for the Family comes First. Seti was nice because, I thought I could help. But is seems what I can contribute is way less... So somewhere "WE" have to strike a balance. Most of the Top 100 never post here... Most of the Top 1000 never post here... Why? The ones that post here, are either proud of the accomplishment or bragging (for myself I am proud of my accomplishement). As I think about I have never seen NEZ brag, his work in Seti Beta has helped to insure the most trouble free Applications get here... How many others can say that? If you want to brag, we can fix that with a New Thread. Then those that have reached the "impossible" goal can post. Then the proper "respect" is given here to those that deserve it. In most cases it has taken them Years! Not weeks... Regards Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

Last I heard SETI Beta was running low on work, no? If they do have work I'll re-attach, I think I have some credits from them in my account. I'm here for the community mostly. I'll never be a "top" cruncher (take a look at my Celeron! LOL), and I have learned not to compete with others. People can whiz by me if they care to do so. If you take a look back into the original Milestone thread, you can see people where amazed when they broke 1000 RAC, or past 500k! But that's just Moore's Law for you.... Regards, Luke. - Luke. |
