I had to uninstall BOINC about a year ago because my system kept hanging. I had upgraded to a newer version of Boinc when this started to occur, previous versions had worked perfectly. Occasionally, I would download and install a nwer version to see if the bugs had been worked out, but to no avail. I've downloaded 6.6.28 for Windows this morning, installed it and the machine hanged within 5 minutes of restart.

The only info that I have from the event viewer is as follows:

Event Type: Error

Download CPU-Z and check what motherboard you have.

That error you have is a problem with your BIOS, which is part of your motherboard. There may be an update for your BIOS to overcome that problem. But to find that out, you will need to know the manufacturer and model of your motherboard.

It is also possibly caused by overheating. Take the case off of the computer and chase the dust bunnies out.

That would be my first guess too.

The machine may run OK under under normal load, but seti runs all the CPU cores at 100% ALL of the time and generates a lot more heat than most normal operations. After 5 minutes the heatsink gets a bit warm under it's nice blanket of dust, and random errors occur.

Clean it out, and maybe look at reseating the heatsink wtih new thermal paste.
