the Sun is apparently being quiet these days:

Tell me about it... I've been trying to see the aurora for the whole winter (I live above the arctic circle) and there was *nothing*. I was so desperate I even began to see strange things which were not there. ;-)

100 years, yes, but not historic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maunder_Minimum
