Since 29 March 2009 I've got a new computer. The old one is not used anymore. I've copied the BOINC data directory from the old computer to the new one. I have not lost anything but ... on the "Your computers" page one the seti@home website the old computer is not listed. Every old point is now assigned to the new computer: "Created 2 Nov 2007 9:57:39 UTC " "CPU type GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 " :-) I'm using Boinc Manager 6.4.7 on Windows Vista x64. What can i do to separate new credit and old credit? Thanks |

You can't. If you copy the data directory over to the new computer, you are essentially going to keep the old Host ID, creation date and all other info associated with that system. If you wanted to have separate stats, you should have emptied your cache on the old machine and left the data directory on there, then install a fresh copy of BOINC on the new machine so that it starts off with everything set to zero. |

Hi OzzFan, thanks for your reply. I didn't wanted to lose a VERY long unfinished computation of Astropulse V5. I mean several days of my CPU time !!! What is the right procedure? |

Hi OzzFan, thanks for your reply. If you were retiring an old computer and starting a new computer, there is nothing you can do to separate the two now. If you were trying to start a second computer in parallel, you should start the old computer. However, this will invalidate the work done on the new computer toward whatever tasks it has done from the old computer. ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |

What is the right procedure? As I said, there's nothing you can do if the old machine has been retired and you took the BOINC directory off the old machine and moved it to the new one. |

Let's say I change computer again. In this moment I have 8 Astropulse V5 computations unfinished. Should I lose these 8 Astropulse V5 computations? Can I copy something to the new computer without copying the old computer ID? Thanks |

Let's say I change computer again. You should set all your projects to "No New Tasks" and let them finish the work units. After reporting them, you could retire the computer without losing anything. Can I copy something to the new computer without copying the old computer ID? Yes, the account_*.xml files. With them in place, you don't need to attach again. Since WUs must be uploaded by the same computer that downloaded them, you can't take unfinished tasks to the new machine. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. Since WUs must be uploaded by the same computer that downloaded them, you can't take unfinished tasks to the new machine. Not unless you move the complete data directory from on PC to the other. The old computer should then not contact the servers anymore, while the new one should be able to continue with the work. This is dependent on operating system, though. You can only do this move between same OSes, like Windows->Windows, not Windows->Linux. |

Since WUs must be uploaded by the same computer that downloaded them, you can't take unfinished tasks to the new machine. That was exactly Dany's original problem ;-) |
