  • No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour.
  • It is a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game animal from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.

It is illegal for a man to drink with a woman in an Edmonton beer parlour in Alberta.

Speaking as a transplanted Albertan: This is a very old law, versions of it were found across Canada up until the early 1960s. It usually applied to smaller beer parlours, that didn't serve food. These establishments would be split into two parts (although they might share a central bar and cash register). One side was labelled "men only", the other side was "women and escorts". That was all the choice you got. A man could drink with a woman, but only on the "W&E" side. A woman on her own was out of luck.

One way around this was to serve food. You could also extend your serving hours in these places, if the price of food served equalled or exceeded the price of the booze. Beer prices were set by law, so it was not uncommon to see bars serve $5 bags of chips - the same bag being 25 cents in the cafe across the street. Ah, it all brings back memories of a misspent youth.

On a totally unrelated note: it is illegal in Alaska to wake a sleeping bear in order to photogrpah it. I guess it is OK if you just want to chat.

THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL EXPOSURE LAW

On 16 July 1969, a United States law was passed called the "Extra-Terrestrial Exposure Law" that made it illegal for the public to come in contact with extra-terrestrials or their vehicles. (Title 14, Section 1211 of the Code of Federal Regulations). Anyone found guilty of such contact could face up to one year imprisonment as well as a fine of $5000. Also, any individual who had been "exposed" could be quarantined under armed guard by the NASA administrator without a hearing.
