How about giving us a choice between AP and regular? With my intermittent PCs they are not necessarily up long enough to process 200+ hours per unit. Recently I lost over 300 hours credit on a late AP unit and I am not anxious to have that happen again.

Thank you. When AP was introduced I thought SETI said we could not have a choice but there it is. Initially there was no choice, but this was due to technical limitations instead of philosophical ones. That limitation was overcome within the six to eight weeks of AP getting released (and a newer BOINC client getting released to support the new preference setting). So that "could not" should have been a "not at this time". ____________

Hey! I clicked on the wish list for that very reason. It would have been nice not to have had Asto Pulse enabled by default. If I would have done my research, I never would have allowed one WU to begin. Being new (again if I did my homework beforehand- my fault), I did not understand how the 'deadlines' worked and spent two days in what had seemed to me a futile effort before aborting (x4 with a quad core).

What's really funny is that although the AP WU's take a very long time to complete, they also give a substantially larger reward. So if you are worried about WU's clicking by and getting less for the effort than having 1 large WU rewarding you then so be it.

What I think would a good if you could say down load a AP work unit ever three days or some give time period. One or two units ever 24,48,72 hours or some time interval period. I really don't like having 4 or more in the Q 2 is enough for me.

Why not just split SAH into two projects - SAH MB and SAH AP - then volunteers could elect what proportion of their resources goes to each.

Why not just split SAH into two projects - SAH MB and SAH AP - then volunteers could elect what proportion of their resources goes to each. Because it is all a search for ET. Setting up a separate project would require separate servers and the duplication of infrastructure and extra costs. Seti is already subsisting on a shoestring budget where most of the funding comes from the volunteers donation. Several Boinc projects have multiple applications or even multiple projects under one umbrella project to minimize cost. The core reason for developing Boinc was to reduce the duplication of effort and minimize the cost to the scientific community of setting up projects. ____________ Questions? I ran into the same problems with my equipment. Devide the large AP-files so they come out with a more acceptable size. 5-10% of present size would be prefered.

I ran into the same problems with my equipment. Devide the large AP-files so they come out with a more acceptable size. 5-10% of present size would be prefered. Dividing up the file into smaller segment is just not an option. It's the amount of work that is required for wide band analysis and that process is a long one. The time involved is no longer then the Seti-Classic was. Hopefully in the future some additional optimization can be introduced in the standard application as was done for MB enhanced. In the mean time there are CPU specific third party optimization apps that does the work in half the time. ____________ Questions? Answers are in the "Unofficial" BOINC Wiki. I ran into the same problems with my equipment. Devide the large AP-files so they come out with a more acceptable size. 5-10% of present size would be prefered. The fact that none of my machines crash while doing the large AP files says that there must be something wrong with your system or configuration. There are no plans to reduce the size of AP workunits, and there seems to be no logical reason to do so. Instead, the option has been offered for those who wish not to do AP can disable it in their preferences. ____________
