If I install Boinc on my Apple computer, will it slow down a wireless pc on my network (which will not have Boinc installed)?

No, why?
If you're afraid about the downloads, here at Seti they're reasonably small. Of course it depends on how much work you cache and which projects you want to attach to (some, like Einstein have pretty big files), but even then, it isn't that your connection is in use constantly. Only when results need to be uploaded and new tasks have to be downloaded.
