When I first uploaded an avatar, it appeared on the forum-preferences and message-board pages in a highly-degraded state. I've been trying to upload a new avatar, hoping it would appear clearly; but this web site refuses to accept it.

Mind, it's a Joint Photographic Experts Group file; it's 100X100 pixels in dimension and less than 4 kilobytes in size. But in spite of repeated attempts, all I get is this bamboozling announcement when I seek to update my preferences:

Warning: imagejpeg(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /disks/koloth/raid5_b/users/boincadm/projects/sah/html/user/edit_forum_preferences_action.php on line 41

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /disks/koloth/raid5_b/users/boincadm/projects/sah/html/user/edit_forum_preferences_action.php:41) in /disks/koloth/raid5_b/users/boincadm/projects/sah/html/user/edit_forum_preferences_action.php on line 78

What, pray tell, is the matter; and when will it be fixed? Thank you for your advice.

=^..^=

P.S.: Also, when posting messages I have to manually enter my signature-block data. All that appears otherwise is the dreaded "red X."

This has the look and feel of a broken script for the avatar issue. DB errors like this usually indicate that work is in progress. If it continues past a couple of days, it is most likey a bug that was introduced, rather than in progress changes that are causing this.

Well, my avatar was finally accepted! However: It's all blue, here. I tried the PNG version: all blue, here. The JPEG version: all blue, here. I boosted the red to its maximum and countered blue via boosting the yellow to maximum. Result: all blue, when it appears here. What's this "blue fixation" about? How is it some folks have wonderfully-clear avatars yet others of us, who follow the guidelines to the letter, end up with these blurry and blue things?

All right, let's just forget this thread. It's not worth the headache! A few months down the road I'll try uploading an avatar once more, in hopes by then whatever conditions existed which permit some folks to have proper avatars will have returned. Thanks anyway!

If you go to http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=5156 about half way down ‘bosh uses the same avatar as you but the colours are there. If you speak to ‘bosh you may be able to get your avatar working.

P.S. don’t forget to change the name of your avatar before each try to get it on the sysyem.

Janus is the person you need to get hold of when having problems here. He maintains and adds enhancements to this site.

BTW, I'm having problems with trying to change my avatar and adding an image to my profile. It seems that once you have an image set in both places, it just refuses to change to a different image. Go figure....
