Yes, this may seem a trite matter but it's been bugging me. I uploaded an avatar, which when it appears here (or on the forum-preferences page) looks nothing like it should -- quality-wise. It was 100X100 pixels and under four kilobytes, just like the instructions admonished.

Anyway, I tried uploading a new avatar today; but I keep getting an error page claiming it's not a valid image file (or some such bamboozling assertion) even though it too is 100X100 pixels and under 4 kilobytes. I've tried various and sundry approaches, yet when all is said and done I end up stuck with the old avatar.

It just won't leave, nor will the new one appear. Help, please! Thank you. *is puzzled*

=^..^=

P.S.: All right, the old avatar is gone for now. But how do I get a new one to upload? It's a Joint Photographic Experts Group file, it's 100X100 pixels in dimension and under 4 kilobytes in size; yet that same error page, insisting it's an invalid file, keeps showing up; and then, via some feat of magic, the old avatar comes back.

Further P.S.: Here's what it says on the page which appears whenever I attempt to upload the new avatar.

Don't know for sure what's going on but I've been trying to update my forum preferences for 2 weeks; after I click on the update button nothing happens. My guess is they've turned the bloody thing off.

Thank you very much, Misfit! I'll try the different approaches mentioned in that other thread.

Well, let's forget all about my little problem (the avatar) for now. I'll try again in a couple of months. It's just becoming way more trouble than it's worth! I finally was able to upload an avatar, only to have it show up all blue. I'm hoping that a few months' time might see a return of whatever conditions existed which permit some members to have proper avatars. Thanks anyway!
