By making sure you have enough from memory to run the programs. I see you have a 512MB system running Windows XP SP3, so I would imagine that you easily have 90MB free to run either or both programs. If you're having troubles getting them to run, perhaps we'll have to dig deeper into your configuration to see what's going on. Such as what are your account preferences for RAM usage (use at most % of memory while computer is in use; use at most % of memory while computer is not in use)? Are you using web based preferences, or have you set your preferences in the BOINC Manager console? |

Do you mean memory or disk space? |

he means RAM. What he is saying is that XP tends to eat up most of a 512 stick of ram with all the firewalls, AV and other assorted programs running in the background. If at all possible upgrade to 1 gb of RAM or reduce the amount of background programs running on your rig. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

In fact, a friend owns a Pentium 4 1.8GHz machine with 256MB of RAM and it crunches just fine. There could be any number of third party programs eating up the rest of the RAM if there was a bunch of crap pre-installed or added later, or even spyware/malware that tends to eat up gobs of RAM too, but I find it hard to believe that a clean system wouldn't have enough RAM to run the science apps. |

he means RAM. He doesn't mean RAM but disk space. In this thread over on the BOINC Dev forums you'll see what BOINC says when it needs more disk space: 12/27/2008 12:43:15 AM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 2073600 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks |

So then he needs to adjust his disk preferences. |

Generally speaking when someone askes about memory they are talking about RAM not hard drive space especially when we are talking about 60 and 30 mb. Most people havent had problems finding that much space on a HDD is the last decade. So instead of having Ageless get pissy at my every post, please see to it that you make your queries clear to all observers, thanks. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. I recently upgraded my BOINC client from a 5.x version to the current. Once I added Seti back to the project list I get this same error message. I've turned down the requirements for memory and I've turned them up but it makes no difference. My machine never had issues with this before and has 2GB of memory on it. Looking at the above thread, I don't get anything different to try. Suggestions? |

Try to adjust the disk space preference settings. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) SETI@home classic workunits 3,758 SETI@home classic CPU time 66,520 hours |
