I was part of seti@home years ago, and I recall at the time you could turn off the pretty graphics and get WAY faster work unit speeds. I do not see anything that allows me to do that in this BOINC system. Can it be done, and how? Thanks! |

...Can it be done, and how? Yes, don't use the BOINC screensaver; that is, select properties of your display and, in the screensaver tab, select anything but BOINC. Do you also have optimized client? that could cut your time greately. On my computer, it's 8 hrs on original Boinc cut down to 1.3 hrs with optimized. |

I have the same concern. I was running SETI for years starting in 1999. I used the command line program and it was real fast. Were you able to make it work like Gundolph suggested? I couldn't. |

BOINC isn't a screen saver program, it only uses the screen saver option. But since this takes CPU cycles away from the science application (as it did with Seti Classic) it's best not to use a screen saver at all. In Windows this can be done by properties of the desktop, screen saver tab, select None for screen saver. (if you choose another screen saver, it's possible it's another 3D or OpenGL screen saver which still takes CPU cycles away). Setting the screen saver option to go to a blank screen and then have the monitor power off to standby after some more minutes is the best way to go. Of course, you can just set the screen saver to None and power down your monitor when you go away from keyboard. But that's probably too easy. ;-) |
