With the optimised SETI app being pretty darn quick and the CUDA app being even quicker, to get some kick a RAC it would make sense to be able to run both the CUDA app and the Optimised app on the same machine - especially for multicore cpu's.

With the current arrangement of just giving work for the GPU app if you have it and not for CPU actually means that, if I were to run solely SETI@home on my Q9450 quad core my RAC would drop when compared to running SETI@home on all 4 cpu's. This appears a little silly to me and very frustrating since I was going to do it. It's like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Is there, on the BOINC road map, functionality being considered to be able to run both CPU and GPU apps on the same machine from a single project? If so, what is the time frame? And why was this not considered a must have before releasing this version?

Live long and BOINC!

Its not a big problem for me, as only one of my 4 machines can work CUDA (c2d lappy with 8600m GT), i`d love to see the following setup possible:

- CPU cores busy with AK(MB)/AP optimized apps
- GPU feeding data off cpu and crunching CUDA MB

Do you think its possible? I`m crunching mostly SETI (plus rare units from LHC) and wouldn`t want to add up additional project just because CUDA cant go with one of the optimized apps. I`d rather drop CUDA instead.

Already seen that, but what i understood of it, was that CUDA MB app doesnt go well with AK optimized MB app. Hopefully i misunderstood it.

You currently Can't run both.
It is a minimum of a month away before it gets anywhere. (The ability to run CPU and GPU CUDA at the same time)

BOINC is not yet designed to do what you want. There's a possible complex workaround, and what information is known about when BOINC may get the capability, in my post in the "Does anyone run CPU + GPU SETI on main?" thread.

Whatever Joe......

You must know by now that I respect you immensely........

And I am just venting my frustrations.

As are many here.....this was a poorly timed event......by poorly informed people......who may have been misled by poorly (or intentionally) bad information.

Thie was simply not ready for prime time....and you know it.

Banned? Nah, I doubt It, They'd have to go after quite a few I'd think. Besides Cudas and Ponies don't really mix.

Now We all just have to wait for 2012 for Cars2 to be released. vroom, vroom.
