Just Silly (CUDA related)

The Gas Giant Volunteer tester Send message Joined: 22 Nov 01 Posts: 1904 Credit: 2,646,654 RAC: 0	Message 843321 - Posted: 22 Dec 2008, 1:13:34 UTC With the optimised SETI app being pretty darn quick and the CUDA app being even quicker, to get some kick a RAC it would make sense to be able to run both the CUDA app and the Optimised app on the same machine - especially for multicore cpu's. With the current arrangement of just giving work for the GPU app if you have it and not for CPU actually means that, if I were to run solely SETI@home on my Q9450 quad core my RAC would drop when compared to running SETI@home on all 4 cpu's. This appears a little silly to me and very frustrating since I was going to do it. It's like cutting your nose off to spite your face. Is there, on the BOINC road map, functionality being considered to be able to run both CPU and GPU apps on the same machine from a single project? If so, what is the time frame? I`m crunching mostly SETI (plus rare units from LHC) and wouldn`t want to add up additional project just because CUDA cant go with one of the optimized apps. I`d rather drop CUDA instead.
