And I am 2 rigs short of a full load right now.......... It's only that matter. I think current low work conditions not due CUDA itself but due to its bugs (it can trash tasks pretty fast with GPU memory corrupted). Well, I have good backup project for such situations. It's called Einstein@home. It goes very close way with SETI. It even will use Arecibo data soon. Maybe it's time for you to create such backup project too? |

Me I don't have a CUDA capable card, a 7800GTX and a bunch of 6200 cards, My money is currently going elsewhere, In any case CUDA would require new cards, I'd hoped That the Quads could work alongside CUDA, But It appears for the moment that that is not possible, Although I hope that can be fixed in Time, But then all I hear about is CUDA this and CUDA that, It's almost like I'm on the outside looking in, I'm not as fortunate as some here, I live on SSI and since It's a fixed income I have to do better than most just to pull off what most consider a mere passing thought, Maybe Congress and Obama will fix SSI so that the Resource Limits are removed and If I could get another $500 a month in income I could do more(SSI was created in 1974 and was meant as an aid to Social Security Retirement benefits, then the Disabled were added which is otherwise known as SSI-D, Now the Disabled out number the Retired in getting SSI as the sliding window in SSDI prevents a good portion from getting SSDI instead, 20 states removed the resource limits from their public benefit programs and have not seen any increase since then, So when will a gutless Congress do the same??), Congress has bailed out Banks and such, At least the President did the right thing by helping GM and Chrysler as they share suppliers with everyone who makes cars for use in the USA, Of course the Disabled seem to get nothing and have not had any changes since 1989 except for being given paltry Colas and of course being ignored, treated to poverty and kept in place there. So as of now I've shut down Boinc here as It's a waste of cpu time while there's no Seti work, Doing other projects doesn't work for Me, It just makes errors and I don't like errors, Mine are bad enough. Social Security: What it does, What it should do SOCIAL SECURITY ADVISORY BOARD: STATEMENT ON THE SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME PROGRAM Asset Limits in Public Benefit Programs (PDF file) What About the Lowest Income Disabled? And as usual only Angel pays any attention to Me. Seti isn't the only one that could use some Charity/Donations of course and I risk having this post being Erased/Hidden/Moderated and maybe even being Banished for what I'm saying, But I feel I must say It in any case. And I am 2 rigs short of a full load right now.......... Might have to....... This is my pet project.......will not leave unless forced to....... But you don't wanna piss off one or your staunch supporters..... And I am that. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

And I am 2 rigs short of a full load right now.......... Who talks about leaving? Not me for sure. As I said - backup project, just to keep hosts busy (and do some another work I suppose very interesting too (I mean it's very interesting to discover gravitational waves. They are predicted by theory but nobody still detected them. Waves of space-time... Just imagine that, it's really cool). That why I do 2 projects instead only SETI. But SETI is main priority. |

And I am 2 rigs short of a full load right now.......... Yes, most of us have backup projects, but that`s not the point. IMO the point is that we could all have enough work, had everything regarding CUDA been tested properly on BETA before release, and whoever is responsible had made sure that there is enough work after the release. I am not, and never was, a volunteer tester. So why should I test on MAIN ? That said, I fear that for many of us the backup projects will become MAIN, considering the troubles with SetiCUDA ! As for now, I have work for about 1 day, then I`ll switch, and who knows, might not come back. ( Never thought I would write this, but that`s how I feel about it, sorry ) ( And in case Mark`s theory about NVIDIA is true, I`m away for sure.) Regards, Kurt |

The poor old servers just can't keep up with CUDA CUDA munching it as fast as the servers make it. And the repository is quickly running out... Congratulations nVidia! You've screwed another thing up! Luckily I have a substantial cache on both computers that should last me a few days while I try to get more work... Who knows? it might become a Free for all! - Luke. |

Well i'll be workless in 6 hours. I only joined to crunch Seti. I guess i'll have to look into other projects, well those that bother to support Mac OS anyway. |

Oh yeah, Nvidia paid SETI to introduce CUDA into S@H and the guy that tries to explian it sounds like one from MSFT. Someone should see the doctors about paranoia... |

If anything goes wrong, the new kid on the block gets blamed even if the problem has been seen many times before. The data indicate the splitters are running very slowly, which is sometimes a symptom of a lost mount, as is the fact the assimilator is getting behind. There are some other facts which ought to be mentioned. It is not true that there were no validations of 6.05 CUDA work at SETI Beta. Here are examples from the 20th host on the top computers list there: 1435286, 1441846, 1441920, 1442262, 1442537, 1442650, 1442802 1442824, 1442855, 1442919, 1443051, 1443195, 1443231, 1443348 There was another host in the top 20 doing CUDA work, but that one didn't get any reissues of old WUs. With about 4000 active hosts at Beta there may have been a reasonable number of validations. OTOH, with about 100 times as many active hosts here any issues will certainly be easier for the project to find. Also, 6.05 was installed at SETI Beta on December 10, here December 17. I make that at least 6 days. The project hopes to raise $548,200 for the next year, which breaks down to $1501.92 per day. Response to the request for donations kept the daily rate above that for all of 6 days. Whether the $45683.33 per month needed will be reached for the first month won't be known until about January 12. I already mentioned my doubts elsewhere, I won't rehash them here. I hope some of you have achieved a catharsis of sorts by venting your frustration. I believe most of you have the best intentions toward the project, but I don't think demanding attention is the mature way to express your feelings. Joe |

Joe...... At 66, I find my inner child comes out sometimes, but I try not to let it interfere with logic. It is certainly possible that the hosts running 6.05 CUDA have contributed to whatever is keeping the splitters from producing enough work to fill the download pipe, but I prefer to let the S@H staff diagnose the problem Monday rather than jumping to conclusions. Well, my thoughts. Cuda is the new Intel vs AMD cpus. We all know Intel chips burn seti WU's faster than AMD chips. Its just a fact of life. I could be upset at the Intel guys cause they have a faster WU cruncher than me, but it doesnt really matter. We are ALL doing Seti work. Some people just do it faster. Could I do cuda? Probly. I have an 8600 GT w/ 512 megs of ram on it. It also would kill any speed advantage I got from AK_V8_win_sse3 as a result. Besides, I'd have to upgrade from BOINC ver 5.10.45 Will I do cuda? No. To many issues and I like my 5.10.45 and optimized apps. Set it and forget it :) System specs: 12/19/2008 10:31:36 PM||Processor: 2 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ [x86 Family 15 Model 75 Stepping 2] 12/19/2008 10:31:36 PM||Processor features: fpu tsc pae nx sse sse2 3dnow mmx 12/19/2008 10:31:36 PM||OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional Edition, Service Pack 3, (05.01.2600.00) 12/19/2008 10:31:36 PM||Memory: 2.00 GB physical, 3.85 GB virtual 12/19/2008 10:31:36 PM||Disk: 298.08 GB total, 152.55 GB free OC from 2.4 ghz to 2.6 ghz on the CPU and an 8600 GT w/ 512 meg card.
