I'm setting up a new computer and had problems with my DDR2 ram which caused my WU's to be reported as client errors. I've waited about 24 hours without and new WU's being downloaded, exceeded quota. I have a backup of my WU's but I'm not sure how many have been reported correctly. My question is if I use my backup will it cause any problems with some being reported good twice and will it cause any problems reporting some good after being reported as client errors? http://www.teamstarfire.org/ |

Because you've had so many errors recently, your quota is one (1) work unit per CPU per day. For a quad core, that's four work units per day. Your quota will double for every correct result you report. Instead of worrying about what restoring a backup will do, just wait a bit. Assuming you start reporting good results, your quota will soon be 100 work units per CPU per day like it's supposed to be. Besides, your work units were already reported as bad. Most likely any results you've already reported would be rejected anyway, no matter whether they're good or not. Yup... If the hardware problem have been fixed, and you start to report valid results, your quota will increase very rapidly....... Just check and make sure you are not still reporting errors, and all should be well soon. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Thanks for the info. I thought it wouldn't work but wanted to make sure. I got the problem fixed. It's just one of those things when setting up a new OC'd computer. I just wanted to try and recover some of my bad uploads. I've never had it take over 24 hours to start sending me new WU's and thought if I could get some to report as good it would start sending me some more. Right now I have it crunching the backup with the network activity suspended just to make sure I have it stabilized. http://www.teamstarfire.org/ |

At one time, there was a 'resend' feature that would resend the lost WUs back to your host when you got things back up and running, but that has been disabled now for a long time due to the load it put on the servers....... I am not so sure that the load on the servers caused by having to download a new work cache is lesser than by resending the original WUs.....but I think it might have something to do with keeping track of them rather than resending them..... Hi everyone, sorry to post with more problems again (especially while ya'll are so busy with the servers right now!) Anyway I'm trying to add an older G3 to my seti setup, and I'm having a whale of a time getting it to work. It worked fine at first, but now I've got two issues: 1) With Einstien I've got the "waiting for memory" message, and 2) with Seti I've got multiple client errors (I'm including details of one error below.) I've gone back to Boink 5.X but its having the same problems as 6.x, so its not the boink software. Also, everything is working fine on my other computer (a G5 running boink 6.x) I have the two computers on an ethernet switch, which is in turn connected to a cable modem. Thanks in advance. Oh yeah, almost forgot, it certainly looks like part of the problem is not enough memory (only 128 mgb) and I found a gig of memory for this computer for 40 bucks, which I plan to buy soon; however, it may be the problem can't be solved by just the addition of memory, but I don't have the expertise to tease that out of the client error info. Any takers? Thanks |

Thanks for the info. I thought it wouldn't work but wanted to make sure. I got the problem fixed. It's just one of those things when setting up a new OC'd computer. Right now I have it crunching the backup with the network activity suspended just to make sure I have it stabilized. @Fred G - Please don't use Seti for your o/c experiments. Get it stable and then run Prime95 torture test before letting it loose on Seti. Prime95 can be compared with known good results, whereas Seti is new, untested work. You're not doing anybody any favours by sending back bad results. If I've upped and o/c, I always test my computer for 8 hours on Prime95 before letting it loose on 'live' work. regards, Gizbar. Hi everyone, sorry to post with more problems again (especially while ya'll are so busy with the servers right now!) Anyway I'm trying to add an older G3 to my seti setup, and I'm having a whale of a time getting it to work. It worked fine at first, but now I've got two issues: This message, coupled with "waiting for memory" from Einstein@home indicate your problem likely is your memory-preferences in BOINC. Not sure with SETI on a Mac, but atleast on windows, an un-optimized Seti_Enhanced can use upto 100 MB memory at startup, before dropping-down to more normal memory-usage. With only 128 MB memory, if the highest of your 2 BOINC-memory-preferences is set below 80%, chances are all seti-work will error-out due to violating this limit. So, try increasing the max to 99%, and see if this doesn't fix the SETI-problem. "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

Ingleside, increasing my memory prefs to 99 percent worked like a charm, the old G3 is now happily crunching away. Thanks again. |
