It's saying that no work is available at the time that your computer is checking. Question: Are you talking about the Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz with Vista, or the P4 3.00GHz with XP? Or is this a different computer that's not on your account? I ask because the P4 has no tasks at all, and the Core 2 Duo has three tasks. How does this computer connect to the internet? Dialup, high-speed? Go to the Messages tab in BOINC, scroll all the way to the top, copy the first 25 lines and post them in a message. That'll tell us something about the settings you use. i am useing the xp windows P4 3.00GHz with XP I have 3 cpus hooked to a usb port on the cable. this was working just quit when i did a seti update they sent me and it never run again. I completely installed new xp and then bonic again to try to get it to run, also uninstalled and went down to the 5.8.16 because someone told me xp would not run the others. then back up to the 5.10.45 all it does is check for work, day after day. rebooted just now and this is what it said as i looked. i like running 3 cpus on seti, and going to add at least one more maybe 2. so would like to get these thing fixed on seti. thanks. 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.45 for windows_intelx86 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Data directory: C:\Program Files\BOINC 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz [x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 1] 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Processor features: fpu tsc sse sse2 mmx 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00) 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Memory: 478.79 MB physical, 1.10 GB virtual 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Disk: 74.52 GB total, 23.57 GB free 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Local time is UTC -7 hours 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM|SETI@home|URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 3240856; location: (none); project prefs: default 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 20-Oct-2008 07:50:25) 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Host location: none 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||General prefs: using your defaults 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Reading preferences override file 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 95.76MB 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 474.01MB 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Preferences limit disk usage to 0.00GB 10/22/2008 9:55:15 PM|SETI@home|Resetting project P4 3.00GHz with XP |

I highly recommend BOINC 6.2.19, and it works perfectly with Vista x64 (what I run on my AMD quad-core). 10/22/2008 9:51:49 PM||Preferences limit disk usage to 0.00GB This is your problem. You need to set the hard disk usage to higher than 0 GB. Go to your Computing preferences and click edit preferences. Change these settings: Under Disk and memory usage Use at most 2 GB disk space Leave at least 1 GB disk space free Use at most 10% of total disk space Write to disk at most every 60 seconds Use at most 50% of page file (swap space) Use at most 50% of memory when computer is in use Use at most 90% of memory when computer is not in use Then click Update preferences. That saves the web-based settings. In BOINC, go to the Advanced menu and click Preferences. Click the Clear button, then click Yes. That sets BOINC to use the web-based settings. It should start downloading work units right away. If it doesn't, go to the Projects tab and click Update. also uninstalled and went down to the 5.8.16 because someone told me xp would not run the others. Who has given that advice? As he or she is not well informed. All versions of BOINC (3.xx, 4.xx, 5.x.x and 6.x.x) run on XP. Perhaps that he or she confused the latest version (6.2.xx) being Vista compatible, or that versions after 5.8.16 do not run on Windows 95 and NT 4.0 |

I'm having the same problem for over a week now. I have to detach, reattach and then I get one SETI@Home unit. After that's done, no more work is available :( Here's my log: 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Starting BOINC client version 6.2.19 for windows_intelx86 30/11/2008 20:29:18||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Running as a daemon 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Running under account boinc_master 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 6] 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Processor features: fpu tsc pae nx sse sse2 pni mmx 30/11/2008 20:29:18||OS: Microsoft Windows Vista: Ultimate x86 Editon, Service Pack 1, (06.00.6001.00) 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Memory: 3.25 GB physical, 6.71 GB virtual 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Disk: 465.76 GB total, 190.36 GB free 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Local time is UTC +0 hours 30/11/2008 20:29:18|SETI@home|URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 4541143; location: home; project prefs: default 30/11/2008 20:29:18||General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 26-Aug-2008 09:00:46) 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Computer location: home 30/11/2008 20:29:18||General prefs: using separate prefs for home 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Reading preferences override file 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 997.86MB 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 2993.57MB 30/11/2008 20:29:18||Preferences limit disk usage to 4.10GB 30/11/2008 20:29:43|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Hold out for another day or so. The new scheduler that will fix this behaviour is coming, it should start here tomorrow after the weekly outage. |

I had this a few weeks ago after doing some housekeeping when I moved some stuff onto my boinc drive which resulted in less than a GB free. Boinc did what I told it to, and didn't get any work.. but I only noticed after it ran out of work for a few days :( Check you have enough room and you've given it sensible disk limits first, then look for other problems. I think an email from boinc warning that it doesn't have any space would be a Good Idea! |

@Carla I know it's been a couple of days and the work may be flowing already but I noticed something in your message log:
You've set some preferences locally on this machine. It's possible that's those local preferences are causing problems in downloading new work. Let us know. QS |

I had this a few weeks ago after doing some housekeeping when I moved some stuff onto my boinc drive which resulted in less than a GB free. That would be a very good idea!!!! This issue has come up several times in the last month or so, where a user did not know why they were not getting work, and it turned out to be a lack of hard drive space. It happened to me on one rig a while back. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Thanks, but everything is working OK now. I did reset the preferences and nothing seemed to change. Then, I detached from climateprediction.net (which I returned to since SETI@Home stopped sending me work units) and still no solution. Then I detached once again from Seti@Home and when I reattached, work units started flowing in... I will not reattach to climateprediction.net since it's so demanding on my system resources - I only went back to it to see if i could get some work done while SETI@Home wasn't working for me. Thank you for your help... ... and keep on crunchin' ;) Carla Francisco |
