3. Google is owned and run by Canadians! Peaceful people.

Google is an American, publicly-owned, corporation, headquartered in Mountain View, California.

No, Google was co-founded by Canadians Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were students at Stanford University and the company was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 7, 1998. Google's initial public offering took place on August 19, 2004, raising $1.67 billion, making it worth $23 billion, at the time. It's value is much higher today.

But you are confusing the financing with the ownership. Although it is a so-called "publicly owned corporatation", the real owners are Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The two of them have an unbeatable controlling interest in the corporation in their stock holdings. So they remain the real owners, all stock market Mumbo-jumbo nothwithstanding.

Sergey Brin owns 15.6 percent of Google's outstanding shares, and Larry Page controls 15.7 percent. Not only do the two control 30+ percent of Google, the shares they do control are labeled as being Class B level stock,

which has more voting power than Class A level stocks.

Owners of Class B stocks have 10 votes per share they control, whereas Class A holders have 1 voter per stock.

Industry experts expect Google initial market value to be in the area of $20-30 billion. If these expectations are met, Brin and Page will be worth an estimated $3 to 4.7 billion . . .

Back to the original topic...
They need a Linux version right this second! Grr. :,(

It's disheartening that they haven't compiled a working version for it at all yet.

Google has built some of the biggest and most expensive computer centers in the world. According to "Nature" magazine no journalist has ever been allowed to enter one of its centers. Why this secrecy?

Chrome has some way to go before matching upto Firefox...

And if you're the paranoid type....Google owns you.....not Microsoft

Google tweaks Chrome licence text

Google has rescinded an article of the user agreement for its new browser, Chrome, released on Tuesday.

The initial agreement claimed rights over "any Content which you submit, post or display on or through" the browser.

Google reworded the agreement on Wednesday, leaving those rights in the hands of Chrome's users.
A spokesperson for Google said its user agreements were re-used and the initial claim was an oversight.

The initial End User Licence Agreement (EULA) claimed "a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services."

My interpretation is quite different from yours, Bounty.Hunter. I think some ambitious lawyer or middle-management exec overreached himself.

What's significant to me in that story is: Google listened, and fixed the problem, the very next day!

That's what I see as a multinational company caring...No talk, immediate action. :]]

It's called "Keeping Trade Secrets", a method far superior to copyright enforcement. ;]

So where does Canada enter the picture?

The links in this post tell that:

Larry Page: Born March 26, 1973 (1973-03-26) (age 35) [in] Lansing, Michigan

Sergey Brin: Born August 21, 1973 (1973-08-21) (age 35) [in] Moscow, Soviet Union

Is the company registered in Canada or what? I haven't read that anywhere.

The cartoons in that comic book, that explains Chrome, has been spoofed:

Google's comic capers: what they really meant to say

Enjoy! ;-D

Contrary to what Google says, I have found that at least some games have HUGE pauses occasionally.

More seriously, every character that you type in the address bar sends the contents of the address bar to google as a search.

Will not use for the simple fact wha you stated above. It is another way to track peoples surfing habits to direct more junk mail to your e-mail accounts.

About the game pauses, that's what I have read in the reviews as well.

IE8 also sends everything to Redmond, every character you type in the address bar. I guess we'll have to get used to that...
