I'm using the Asus P5K Deluxe on PC1, What are You using Fred?

Asus P5K Deluxe (WiFi-AP Edition) is what it says on the box.

F.

Well I looked in the manual for this "Performance Level" parameter and I couldn't find It anywhere where It would matter outside of 2 places that don't have anything to do with the Bios of course), I have the ram and cpu set to 1:1, the timing at 5-5-5-15 and the ram at 470MHz, with the vcore @ 1.375v, cpu pll at 1.7v and the ram voltage at 2.35v(This is Patriot ram), pci-e is set at 100MHz and those are what settings that I remember off hand from the Bios. :D

Same one I am using....

Popular motherboard isn't It? ;)

Oh I changed from SSSE3x to SSE4.1 today, Maybe that could help some, As the average RAC here for Me looks to be flattening off after I did that.

I second the (belated) Happy Birthday Joker.

"Performance Level" is the label in Memset which allows fine control over this parameter from within Windows. If you get it wrong, Windows freezes but a re-boot fixes that. This is the parameter that is changed by "Transaction Booster" in the BIOS options of the P5K.

I, and I believe Mark too, have found that the SSSE3x is actually slightly better for this board than the SSE4.1 for 45nm quaddies but it will be interesting if your 9300 gives different results (note: the differences are very small.

Ok I downloaded Memset 3.4, I've changed the Performance level from 12 to 10 to see what happens, The RAC on PC1 is at 5293.68 as I type this(It was at 5289.?? But It changed on Me before I could get the last two numbers drat), If I don't have any problems I'll raise It again to 8 and then soon enough as I'm set to 6 where I think I might stop.

Nah He needs the flying Steam Locomotive from the end of the 3rd movie, The Delorean got crushed just before that, Besides It needed some work done to the ignition system as It had a tendency on that one Delorean to be a cranky starter at times. Of course If the Time Travel equipment were transplanted into the Flying Sub... ;)

Good plan. You will certainly not get it below 6 without Windows freezing; you might get away with 8.

F.

Fred...were you not able to make the change in the bios with the transaction booster? Or was it changing too many parameters at once to get a handle on?

The only problem I can see with Memset is that you would have to reenter the changes every time the rig is rebooted, correct?

Yes, I did the testing with Memset to see what minimum value was stable in Windows and then used Transaction Booster in Bios and checked that didn't set the value any lower than the best I'd achieved with Memset.

I then did a full Memtest86+ run and 8 hours+ of Prime95 before letting it loose on SETI WU's.

So far as I can tell, that is the only parameter that is changed by the Transaction Booster but it does have a significant impact on RAM latency (as noted on Anandtech).

OK, that makes sense...I can see why it may have been a bit tedious to do. Too bad you cannot set the performance level directly in bios instead of having to guess what the 'transaction booster' is gonna do, eh?

That would be nice, But when has the Bios ever played nice? We take what they give US sometimes.

Yep I'm in 8 now, No problems, I think I'll leave It there though. And I went back to SSSE3x and PC1's RAC is at about 5,325 right now.

Oops, I misspoke It's now at 5,336.49 and the work units are really small at about 15 minutes each, I've got a flood of shorties.

...and I can't get my Q9300 above 5000 RAC to save my behind...Guess I gotta get me one of them P5K Deluxe thingies...Now where is that credit card...

@Mark...about the Penny...and the other PCs...do you run all of them with the sides off? What is the switch in the middle of the bottom of the case for? And on the Q9450, what is the meter in the bottom of the picture for?

Just wondering...

(and nice pics...very clear and sharp detail...much better than my Nikon Coolpix 8700)

Of course It doesn't hurt that during 108F temps outside, PC1 to PC3(Left to Right) are near the remote controlled swamp cooler. :D PC2 has 2 fan controllers for a bit, Why? As the 3.5" one is firmly stuck in the case as It's a piece of crap and The case cover is off as a result as I haven't felt like working on the PCs recently.

Hiya John...
Yep, I run all of them side off.....that way the TTBT gets the coolest outside air possible, instead of warmer air from inside of a closed case...
The switch in the bottom of the Penny case is just something I cobbled in for the start and reset switches from another case when the little teeny wires broke off of this case's switches.
The meter at the bottom of the Q9450 pic is a power meter that came with the Cooler Master RS-550-ACLY power supplies that I am running on all rigs except the Frozen Penny...that has a PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750...

When I saw the meter on the Q9450, I thought it was some kind of guage for the power...made me think of a CB radio and tuning the antenna with a SWR meter.

As for running side off, my cases have a vent right over the CPU, and the TTBT can suck air thru that.
