Hi Guys, I have Boinc running on Vista Business. It is installed in C:\Boinc & crunching merrily away. However on booting up, Boinc is blocked & I have to allow it to run. How do I get it unblocked so that it can run instantly on bootup? |

You can't with BOINC Manager and UAC on. Plain and simple, Vista does not allow BOINC Manager to start up at Windows bootup. If it would allow that, it could also allow any virus/trojan to do so. The workaround: install BOINC as a service, it will run before Windows logon. Then you can start BOINC manager by hand. Or read this thread for a possible other workaround. |

Thanks Ageless. Will crunch wu's already d/l'ed. Then reinstall Boinc as a service. Thanks for the info. Still trying to get used to Vista. |

Hi guys, have installed Boinc as a service, so that problem is resolved. However, I have noticed over the past week or so that Boinc is extremely slow. Whichever tab I select in BM, it takes anywhere up to 95 seconds to enter & there have been times when it states on the title bar, "not responding". All I have installed at the moment is the o/s, boinc, avg, cpuz & speedfan. Rig specs: - 9500 Phenom - 4gb ddr800 - 250/400 hd's - 8500 gpu. Other program access pretty quick. Is it a Boinc or Vista problem? |

Is it a Boinc or Vista problem? Never experienced this issue on my Vista machines. Is your processor throttling due to heat? |

Is it a Boinc or Vista problem? Hi Ozzfan. No, it's currently running at 54c under load. Accessing other programs is not a problem - just Boinc. It even takes it's time when trying to highlight a project. AVG states that it's clear & it's going through a router rather than direct. All other rigs ok. That's why I wondered as to wether it's Boinc or Vista. |

Now this is weird! My Celeron 2.8ghz died yesterday, so copied the Boinc folder to a pen drive & let it run out the wu's on the Vista rig. This went ok & all wu's now completed. However, every time I accessed BM, there was no delay whatsoever. Switched back to Boinc on rig, & sure enough, delayed access is back. It has to be either Boinc or Vista. At 1st, thought it could be the drive at fault so reinstalled Boinc onto the D drive, delayed access still happening. All other program access have no problems. Any ideas will be most welcome. |

Any ideas will be most welcome. Well, here are my 3 best ideas. 1. Exclude your BOINC folder form online virus scanning (if not already done) 2. What is your time for "Write to disk at most every ___ seconds"? Can be found in your preferences (local, if there is a "Reading preference override file" line is in your messages list, otherwise your web based prefs)? Default value is 60 (seconds) 3. What happens if you suspend BOINC (Advanced View -> Activity -> check "suspend", but don't forget to change this back afterwards...)? Is it working normal again, i.e. can you switch between tabs in a normal speed? HTH Andy |

Is it a Boinc or Vista problem? Sirius, Not trying to alarm you or anything but unless you have it OC'ed that temp still seems HIGH to me. my 9600 rig is running 47 right now and for it it is VERY HOT full load on it and maxed out for IE use. I don't know if that is a STOCK Cooler you are using for it my chip was OEM and I was forced to buy one I chose the Thermaltake CL-P0075 I think it was $24 from the EGG, This was the only AMD approved HFS I could find ANYWHERE...I wish now I had gone with a Bigger one like the Tuniq Tower or something similar but when I do upgrade the current one will find a home on my Sempron if it hasn't BURNED up yet it is running closer to your 9500 temps and shuts down occasionally due to heat. Glad you got your issue worked out though... |

I think it's because of the rig fully loaded - 2 backplanes(6 HD's)6 hd's,8500 gpu. It's not oc'ed & has an Akasa EvoBlue 90 cooler. All together, I think it's overpowering the cooling system. I use the EvoBlue as I have them on my desktops & server, & they work extremely well, just not so well on the workstation. I might need to go for a better cooler, or maybe a better case?
