Congratulations on making it through the first week!

You might try this: Figure out how much money you have already saved. Take yourself out for dinner, buy a bottle of the good stuff or get something else that you want. You already "know" that quitting is "good for you". Sometimes it helps to actually see, touch, or taste the benefits.

How's everything holding up Mark? Do you know how much money you've saved yet? If so, spend it on something you like, something for your gf, anything... (not cigs!)

Gotta be, what? Day 8? If you were ova' here in NZ it would be Day 9...

Keep on Going!

Luke.

Still hangin' in there.....still not getting much easier to resist anytime I stop in the various gas stations I frequent for fuel or a snack......
But I still have not bought any.....must be up about $50.00 so far......

Thanks again for all the supportive comments....if not for them, I probably would have caved in already......I think this coming weekend will be hard again, and it's gonna really be tough keeping myself from slipping the last week of the month, when Pierce is on their one week 4th of July shutdown and I have a lot of extra time on my hands....

But I am trying to stay positive and not give in.

EDIT....Anybody else quitting or having quit have trouble sleeping at this point in the effort?

Ummmm, yes. Can't sleep. Affects language skills. Only speak in broken sentences. Must get help....

Sorry...lost my mind for a moment. Yes, I am having trouble sleeping also. I really like watching the clock as the minutes tick by in the dark, listening to the sounds of the house as it cools off at night. A pop here, a crack there, dog snoring on the floor, dog cleaning himself at all hours of the night. Been real fun. Tell me why we are doing this again, Mark. I guess I will try to get some work done to take my mind off of it. Later, everyone....

EDIT: But look at my RAC!!! It's thru the roof!!!!

Thanks John....glad it's not just me...this too shall pass. Sometimes get up at all hours to check on the crunchers, hoping I will fall asleep when I go back to bed.
Just to remind us both, we are doing this because it's much better for our health and our wallets....

Nice job on the RAC there...
I just completed switching one of my duos to the old Q6600 quad I swapped out for the Q9450, a hot running old B3, not a great OCer, but still more output that the duo.
And I backed off the Frozen Penny from 4.5ghz to 4.3ghz in an effort to get it stable again....should start catching up to you again soon.....the kitties are running at ya again.

Please try not to worry about this weekend. That's days away. Try to stay focused on today. Tomorrow? Worry about that tomorrow.

Trouble sleeping is common. Go to the drug store & get a bottle of Melatonin 3 MG is good. It's non habit forming & will cause you to sleep like a baby.

Keep it up! Don't think this urge will disappear ever. But you'll find it'll be easier to forget about day after day. Pretty soon you'll find it easy to forget about.

Hi Mark & John.

Create a schedule for yourselves for when you know you have plenty of spare time. I.E., Sat - Strip & throughly clean Frozen Pennie (3/4 hrs) clean tools etc.

Sun - Strip & clean 2nd Pennie (or whatever it's called). good tip...No Radio, TV or any other distraction & before you know it, most of the day has passed. Then Meal time & cruncher checking - Then ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz time.

Hang in there both of you, you're putting me to shame - I just cannot quit! Back in Oct 83, I was given 2 choices, carry on living the way I was & I would be dead within six months, or give up either drinking or smoking, Doc said preferably both. I gave up drinking just like that, & in the 25 years since have only had a pint or two when at family dinners/occasions.

You've lasted 10 days - I only lasted 17 hours!!!!!!

It might come sooner than I think. To keep it from me, Andrea has started a quit smoking course, which is going to make it difficult for me working from home. After nearly losing her a couple of years ago, I was quite glad when she came out of intensive care & do not wish to make it difficult for her.

So after 42 years, who knows..............

Sirius......If I can do it, you can do it...my OCD/manic depressive personality makes it more difficult for me perhaps than some....
But if I can make the decision after 20 years, you can too...
I 'enjoy' it too, but found that in the last couple of years I really 'enjoyed' it less and less. It was more of a habit or compulsion than true enjoyment.

Hopefully your significant other's decision and action to quit would help support your effort to do so as well.....now would be an excellent time to give it a go!!!

Best of luck with it!!

We'll see...However, I must admit that when I was on the trains back in the 70's, I used to smoke 60 or more a day. Also, for the past couple of months have come down to approx 15 from 20/25 a day.

So maybe subconsciouly, I want to quit?

Quite possibly so......I knew that I really wanted to quit for the last 2 years at least.
I just lacked the willpower to make the resolution and stick to it.....
I even tried quitting last fall with the help of some nicotine lozenges....they did not really help, at least not for me. They may have cut down on some of the physical symptoms, but when it came right down to it, I had to make my mind up to do it.

I tried those damn lozenges...and all they did was make me want a smoke...lol

It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues
